Probably true, but I don't think there will ever be an "after Ukraine".
Russia now cannot quit, because Ukraine is much better armed with longer range munition that can hit Crimea. That makes Crimea no longer safe (the Russian navy has left, for the most part). The only way to make Crimea safe is to push Ukraine forces so far back that they cannot hit Crimea.

In that respect, Russia is now worse off than it was before they invaded. At least back then they had peaceful control of Crimea. Now, they are going to have to fight and get Ukraine to give up before they will ever be safe in Crimea.
And Odessa, which was once subject to missile attacks and blockaded, is now not even talked about. The Russian fleet dares not even approach Odessa.

There are many companies whose entire business is to manufacture killer drones and other weapons for Crimea. HERE'S ONE On top of that, Ukraine itself boasts companies in the same business. I find it hard to believe those companies and all the Ukrainians whose relatives have been killed by Russia will just "forget" and let Russia occupy Ukraine.
Drone operators could be anywhere and be of any age. Palestinian teenagers used to launch rocks and send suicide bombers. Ukrainians will be far more dangerous. And for once, walls really won't work. It looks like Russia will have to fight forever, or do without Crimea.

This should worry Ukraine. As you mentioned, Russia would have to push back Ukrainian forces far from Crimea. That means taking even more territory. I imagine Odessa is high on their list. That would effectively leave Ukraine without a coast.

It's not a matter of forgetting. It's a matter of what can they do about it. Need factories to produce drones on a large scale. Those factories would be easy targets for missiles. Not doubt there will be a long lasting animosity towards Russia. But the Russians are built different. Such animosity want bother them at all.

If Russia invades Estonia (which is very doubtful), outside of NATO help they don't have the ability to last. I'm glad they feel so sure of themselves though. Maybe this means they can go it alone instead of trying to drag us into their hostilities.

That's always been the Russian dream.
The going is slow. For right now they can't even approach Odessa.

And now they have sudden reinforcements.
200 Estonian "volunteers" from Azov battalion returned home for rest. After they left Avdiivka.

Moldova might be next

Welp, time to send them billions in arms and aid too.

Quote:
The pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria may call for or organize a referendum on Transnistria’s annexation to Russia at a recently announced Transnistrian Congress of Deputies planned for February 28. The pretext for such a call would be the purported need to protect Russian citizens and “compatriots” in Transnistria from threats from Moldova or NATO or both. Russian President Vladimir Putin could, in the most dangerous course of action, declare Russia’s annexation of Transnistria during his planned address to the Russian Federal Assembly on February 29, although that appears unlikely. Putin will more likely welcome whatever action the Transnistrian Congress of Deputies takes and offer observations on the situation. ISW offers this assessment as a warning for a high-impact event of indetermined probability. Moldovan government officials state that the situation in Moldova is unlikely to worsen as of February 22.

Russia is claiming to have made advancements, while although not huge are substantially bigger than all of Ukraine's celebrated advancements the past year. These haven't been 100% verified. Some talk that Russia is trying to capture thousands of Ukrainian soldiers in a pocket between a pincers movement and are pushing hard and quick to do so.

The only way the Ukrainians can possibly win this war is by liberating their land, not by losing more land. It doesn't matter how little or how much. But they have to take land back. That is not happening.
