The APU breakthrough guard has so far been unable to do anything with our 42nd division
ournalist Yury Podolyak (https://t.me/yurasumy):

▪️Today, at about 1 a.m., the Armed Forces of Ukraine went on the attack under the cover of the Hymars, using the tactics of hitting the forward trenches, counting on the destruction of the dugouts and our soldiers under them.

▪️But something went wrong, our soldiers did not run: the 42nd Heroic Division, primarily the 291st Regiment, is holding this dangerous direction. The 70th also helps. They survived the first blow.

▪️“Haymars” is not enough for all the trenches - further in the scheme of the Armed Forces of Ukraine there was the work of strike companies of drones. There is no exact data yet, but I will assume that our electronic warfare systems worked: the drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine probably took off, but did not fly.

▪️Important: the Armed Forces of Ukraine were unable to clear the mine fields, they were forced to go through narrow corridors. There are shots of a cluster of tanks: one was hit, and the rest are afraid to bypass it, run into mines. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are compressed, our artillery and aviation are working. All night our night hunters worked with a carousel, shot a lot of enemy equipment.

American Bradley and Leopard infantry fighting vehicles have been spotted - this is the very breakthrough guard, this is a counteroffensive, no matter how Kyiv denies it.

▪️The Breakthrough Guard has so far been unable to do anything with our 42nd division, which does not allow the enemy to break through even the first line of trenches, not to mention the first line of defense. The Armed Forces of Ukraine took several positions, where they hit with Haimars, but the first line of defense was not broken through.

▪️The enemy regrouped, stopped hitting the flanks, walking along the reservoir, pressing on Velikaya Novoselovka in order to massively support the attack in the Orekhov direction. Since morning they have been breaking in this one direction, but from radio intercepts it is known that some units refuse to go on the attack.

▪️They need to enter the operational space, but they cannot turn around with large forces in order to powerfully move forward. If they go with their superior forces, they will suffer losses in minefields

▪️Attacks come in waves, now there is a meat grinder. The Armed Forces of Ukraine seem to want to fill up everything with the corpses of their soldiers, hoping that we will run out of ammo.

Seems like the counteroffensive has begun and will hear more and more stories in the coming days and weeks. Let's see how this busy summer goes:

Russian Elite Is Souring on Putin’s Chances of Winning His War
Even some who support the invasion and want to intensify the fight against Ukraine have become deflated about Russia’s prospects.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...sn-t-convinced

Quote:
A mood of deepening gloom is gripping Russia’s elite about prospects for President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, with even the most optimistic seeing a “frozen” conflict as the best available outcome now for the Kremlin.

Many within the political and business elite are tired of the war and want it to stop, though they doubt Putin will halt the fighting, according to seven people familiar with the situation, who asked not to be identified because the matter is sensitive. While nobody’s willing to stand up to the president over the invasion, absolute belief in his leadership has been shaken by it, four of the people said.

[…]

The Kremlin has imposed the harshest repression in decades to punish even mild dissent with jail terms. Russia’s middle class who’d formed the bedrock of support for opposition to Putin’s rule in major cities in the past decade have been cowed into silence or have fled the country as part of the biggest wave of emigration since the 1990s after the Soviet Union’s collapse.

[…]

“Officials have adapted to the situation but no one sees any light at the end of the tunnel - they’re pessimistic about the future,” said Alexandra Prokopenko, a former Russian journalist and central bank advisor who’s now a non-resident scholar at the Berlin-based Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center. “The best they hope for is that Russia will lose without humiliation.”

Michael Kofman offers some great analysis on the Counter-Offensive

Quote:
EPISODE SUMMARY

Also covered: Why Kakhovka dam destruction is unlikely to have an impact on the counteroffensive, Prigozhin's trap for Russian Military leadership in Bakhmut, implications of attacks on Russian border regions in Belgorod, impact of Storm Shadow long range missiles and why Russia continues to avoid sending conscripts into the war.

Would Russia destroy a country to create what they want?
Yes, they would. They destroyed the Aral Sea. It was once the fourth largest lake in the world. Russia/USSR diverted the rivers that fed it and it died. Efforts by Kazakhstan to revive it are still underway.

Yeah. Russia will do whatever they like.
The world would be better off without the Russian government as we know it.

Can Ukraine really afford 1 for 1 casualties (and that's being extremely generous with Russian forces entrenched in defensive positions) with Russia?

The quicker this counter attack fails hopefully this faster this war ends. Russia should be able to roll up the remaining Donetsk territory and dig in defense lines that hopefully lead to a ceasefire. I don’t see Ukraine continuing to sacrifice waves of men into well defended lines like they are now. It was immoral of the west to push for this to begin with. Once the people realize Zelensky sold out his population his gov will be ousted, and the wests failed proxy war will end.

This is best case scenario. Worst case NATO acts stupid and sends in troops, pushing for world war 3.

Please, read on positional warfare principles. In positional warfare, attacking side suffers 6-10 to 1 losses, simply because they are attacking and exposed and defending side is well-entranched and prepared. 1 to 1 was never known in the history. A well positioned and protected machine gun nest can stop hundreds of attackers, several of them, strategically located for crossfire, make impenetrable defense. And that's only 2-4 nests. 10 people. Add to that artillery and air support.
Or, simply watch It is all quiet on the Western front. Nothing really changed, no matter how many HIMARS or else is there. Soldiers ultimately have to get out of a trench and somehow get to the enemy line.

Anyhow.
So far, the so much waited for counteroffensive apparently is in development. In Zaporizhzhia region, 70th bregade is under 17 hours of non stop waves of attacks. So far, no breakthrough.
Info is current.
