The lefties plans are working. The country is starting to self destruct. Get rid of the police and have chaos is in many places. We start yelling racism to divide and making people angry. Destroy and rebuild it up as they see fit. All this chaos is pat of their evil plan. Just like the borders, nothing will be fixed with higher crimes either. We just gotta get used to it and accept it.

Trump can't get here fast enough.

It all comes down to the single mother generational cycle. Stop having kids you can't afford (and don't really want), and the problem solves itself within a generation.
And....the fathers need to be present too. And the parents need to teach these children basic socialization skills to be able to function and know how to behave properly in society.

I have been in many major cities and the teens are extremely loud, cursing, started fighting each other, using the N word, just behaving uncivilized.

I will never in my life forget a time when I experienced this in downtown Baltimore. I was shocked and appalled. A huge group of unsupervised teens just being loud and causing havoc at the inner harbor. The tourists and everyone minding their own business were clearly scared and uncomfortable. There were lots of people around and everyone just kind of fled.

It was one of the oddest incidents I've seen. And I was living in Philly at the time, and grew up near Detroit, so I've seen a lot of crazy stuff, lol.

Solve a problem with creative approaches. Don't drop the racist or sexist label when people challenge you would be another tip for ol Lightfoot.
Other cities don’t have the gang presence Chicago has historically had. It’s about geography. Chicago was a hub during prohibition, no different than it is for hard drugs, today.

What has changed the most over the years is the fragmenting of gangs. Mafia had the families who owned the unions. . Street gangs used to be allied with national gangs and centralized power. Those days are long gone. Now it’s a different gang on each block and occasionally within a building on a block. The beefs tend to be personal and play out on social media. It’s the equivalent of tots in the sandbox. Instead of throwing sand and screaming poo- poo head, the guns come out. And there is 100,000 of them, all armed and ready to kill each other for any or no particular reason. That innocents sometimes find themselves in the wrong places at the wrong time.

ATF has been working with the city for years to trace guns. Nearly 12,000 illegal firearms were recovered by CPD, last year. Most are traced to straw purchases from 10 dealers operating in the suburbs and Gary, Indiana.
Females are more likely to be straw purchasers than males. You know, moms. And when their babies get shot they are the first to blame the mayor and Police.

There are about 900,000 black people who reside in Chicago. Most don’t engage in gun trafficking and gangs. How many degrees of separation between honorable people and thugs is unknown.

Every Monday/ Tuesday the Mayor and Cook County AG get into finger pointing. The Mayor blames the AG for lenient bonds and lack of convictions while the AG claims to charge 98 % of arrests for violent crimes and the real issue is CPD does not make enough arrests.

What the county AG ignores is convictions and consequences. Most of the thugs are repeat offenders. There is no fixing hood rats. Chief of Police is very clear, he needs people to come forward. They don’t. People protect their family members or have a justified fear of retaliation.

The city has about 12,000 police officers, the second largest force in the US. That’s about 4000 officers per shift vs 100,000 gang members. There are 25 Police Districts and most of the violence plays out in 5 of those districts.

Hundreds of teens/ young adults, many visibly armed took to running in the streets in downtown Chicago after the fireworks show. Firecrackers were lit and targeted the police. Guns repeatedly fired into the air. Police cars substantially damaged. Police were unable to distinguish between people running in fear vs those causing trouble. Officers injured. 60 arrests.

The CPD is aging out, common most everywhere. At least 20 years and age 50+ and it makes financial sense to retire. New officers are more inclined to seek positions in suburbs. No need for riot gear.

Illinois has 10,000 National Guard. I don’t understand the reluctance to deploy the state national guard. Former Governor Rainer, a Republican, vigorously opposed doing so and said it would make a bad situation worse. CPD has not exactly asked for help, either.

The primary purpose of the guard is peacekeeping. I am not convinced the guard could prevent a single shooting- again 100,000 armed and pissed off gang members.

It really comes down to consequences, convictions, meaningful prison terms with no chance of early release/ parole for violent crimes and repeat offenders. That takes big $$$.

You wrote all of this up, but really it's primarily centered around defunding the police and or restricting them in some manner and the overall more permissive environment and being too soft on crime in general.

If you don't put up with things, things won't get out of hand. Broken window theory I think they call it.

There are a lot of steps in between but that's the big picture.

Hard to ask the CPD to be hard-cases against gangs etc. like they used to be when they know they'll be thrown under the bus immediately by the administration like when Adam Toledo got killed.

Real leadership there would have been calling out the gangs for using 12 yos as gunmen and neglectful parents that have their kids in gangs running around. Also keenly pointing out that Toledo had spent the evening trying to murder other people yet the narrative from protesters is "bad cops"?

The percentage of births funded by Medicaid grows each year.

One state exceeds 70%
Four states are approaching 70%.
Fifteen states have crossed the 50% mark.

Most of the states with the highest Medicaid birth rates lean Republican.

That’s likely the down payment for the next 18 years that will be necessary to support most of these children. The federal tax code has long rewarded low income earners with minor dependents. I wonder the outcome if instead of rewarding undesirable behaviors, people are financially rewarded for not having children they cannot financially support.

Here’s $X/ year every year to each woman of reproductive age who chooses to not have a baby.

Birth control, when used as directed, is nearly 100% effective. Implants are good for three years.

For those you describe, things just got better.

Key facts about the child tax credit in 2021
How much you can get per child
"In 2021, the child tax credit offers up to $3,000 per qualifying dependent child 17 or younger on Dec. 31, 2021. The credit increases to $3,600 if the child is under 6 on Dec. 31, 2021.

This is a tax credit, which means it reduces your tax bill on a dollar-for-dollar basis. The child tax credit is also refundable; that is, it can reduce your tax bill to zero and you might be able to get a tax refund check for anything left over."

This will no doubt be of help to struggling families who have been out of work or has suffered loss of income for whatever reason, but will also be a flashing neon sign for those who you describe above. I don't see that portion improving.

Very true, and should be directed more.
