We do such a great job of sabotaging ourselves, after all.
The USA is too strong, too well protected and just too darn big for an “invasion” .... add to that, no power wants to “destroy” us. They want us WEAK and DEPENDENT on them .... exception Iran, which would be Religious Jihad. The Long Range Plan is to weaken us through Division, using the Enemy within.

Our own deluded and brainwashed citizens over decades, beginning in early education.
That’s the China Plan. They are Patient Planners

The Mexican Narco Plan (not thenMexican Government) is to just take us over by Addiction and Corruption with their Gangs for muscle and tons of MONEY to buy off Politicians, Law Enforcement & Judges.
This is taking place in pockets all over the USA.

Old indeed, since it is no longer happening. A war against US is a war against all NATO members, and neither Russia nor China have any interest in WW-3 knowing they would have zero chance of surviving it.

no, they would wait for us to kill one another over gun rights and free speech...Russia and China already invaded us with propaganda to create that civil war indirectly. They planted seeds of communism in many class rooms and on the MSM to infiltrate for a few decades now. China and Russia are just Biden their time..

What if ( in say ) 20 years time NATO no longer exists and the US is a motley collection of warring petty fiefdoms though ?

I mean I'm sure no sensible person believe that such an invasion could occur tomorrow or even a few years from now , but that doesn't mean the scope of this thread has to be kept entirely contemporary .

On second thought I should have specified that in my OP , though I see no harm in bringing up such speculation as a form of afterthought .

Before such a thing happened, we would have a "balkanization" of the US.

Democrats/libs are continuing to move to positions that are incompatible with western civilization, so perhaps a balkanization may occur, but is unlikely. The US would be far better off without the dems/liberals, but it would be hard to get rid of them. It is like having a five year old help you change the oil on your car. Most other nations do not have this handicap; it is the greatest threat to the US since its inception and is funded by our enemies.

The main problem with "balkanization" would be that dems/libs would invite Chinese military bases on our borders and rapidly assume the role of an enemy of the US.
None of that makes any sense.

Would they be far left punks or far right punks?

Most Americans aren't punks, but they fall into the same divisions.

Which middle-aged, middle-class groups would do the whooping?

The Millennials and post-Millennials are now the largest age group in the nation. Do they fall into the same divisions as the Baby Boomers or the punks?

Just who, among all these age and demographic groups want to go to shooting at each other?

How many of us would far rather seek our traditional political solutions to our problems instead of resorting to open warfare as our solution?

What about our minority populations?
Combined, our minorities now make up the majority of our citizens, yet they each remain separate entities with less in common with each other than our traditional white former majority. Are they divided along their own lines, or do they follow the white divisions?

What about our differing religions and faiths? They tend to cross all the boundaries of everything mentioned above. Which side will our different faiths align? (Consider that some do not believe in war at all when you do.)

What about all our citizens who don't want to go to war with each other, and would depend on our common federal government to protect them if a civil war was imminent?

So what would a civil war actually look like here if one was to break out? Who's going to align with whom, and how will they line up?
What will our existing unified government have to say about a civil war? Where and how would our armed forces at all levels align? (We have 3 different levels at least- federal, state, and local law enforcement.)

Answer these questions. Until they are all answered, I doubt a civil war will ever come.

No civil war, no foreign occupation afterward.

Did France or England invade us during the first Civil War? No. Why would you think Russia or China would do so now?
