I don't mind referring to transgender by their preferred pronouns. I'll call Rupaul a "she" if that what he wants.
But what's changing is now everybody is being pressured to specify what their pronouns are. Some think it's no longer polite to assume what gender a person is so everyone should specify what "their pronouns" are. Look at people's Linkedin profiles. Regular folks are specifying their pronouns next to their title.
Nobody who is not transgender should be specifying their pronouns.
That's crazy. The whole world does not have to change to accommodate transgender people.
I agree with you.
I'm gay and I've never specified my pronouns nor will I.
If someone else chooses to specify theirs I will respect that choice and use their preferred language.
If the person reads as what they want then I will use what the appear. A giant 6'5 dude with a beard is a he or if he prefers I will just say "you" but no way "she". Made up stupid pronouns will not be used.
Yes, I've noticed that pronouns are sometimes specified in higher education today, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I refer to people however they wish and am grateful when they give me a heads up that their identification does not conform to the usual expectations.
Just wait until they try to make it a crime to refer to them by the wrong pronouns. Otherwise, what’s the point of this idiocy? Most people don’t refer to people as a pronoun. They call them by their name.
