This shouldn't be that hard.
Eat a healthy diet, get adequate sleep (7-8 hrs), and do exercise.
Meal portions in the US are much bigger than in other countries and you don't get free refills in other countries, whilst there is a massive processed food industry in the US as Americans are often too busy to cook.

Couple this with a car based culture full of drive in's and an abundance of cheap food coupled with a lack of exaercise and you have a problem.

The problem can be solved, but it's going to mean a change in lifestyle for many.

Reducing the demand for healthcare will lower the cost of healthcare.
Wow, if this worked we'd have no drunks, no raping priests, no drug addicts, no con men/women, no jails, etc.......

The reason(s) we have so many fatties are complex...but, among them, is that the very basics spelled out (lots of sleep, exercise, etc.) becomes difficult - if not impossible - for much of the population. Try working and commuting 10-14 hours per day (or more) and then see how much time you have left.....

It truly amazes me that people think making a problems worse...is going to fix it.

Just for kicks, if one of your family was arrested selling some drugs - should they be put to death like Trump suggests? Think about it carefully before answering.

"when you ain't got nothing you got nothing to lose" - defines many tens of millions of Americans, and drilling them further into debt is not the solution to good health. Having a sane and happy society with preventative health care and education for all...well, that sounds a little better to me.

This isn't going to end well.

Obesity is a national security issue. When people are incapable or unwilling to take care of themselves, something has to be done.
Not to mention, Govt cracked down and restricted access to what they called dangerous opioid prescription drugs, they were doing this to protect people from themselves. I doubt the pharma companies liked it much that their most popular drugs were now being heavily regulated, but hey, it still happened (even though big pharma is supposedly so extremely powerful).

Regulating and restricting access to dangerous products is usually the first thing they try.

Why are they not doing the exact same thing with fast food joints? that food is not really 'food' anyway, if the pharma companies didnt complain, not sure why the fast food companies would be any different.

Exactly.
And it will be difficult to change lifestyles of multiple generations accustom to living this way.
