I've certainly seen it mentioned often in articles, where they point out that not only Hillary and Elizabeth Warren are spoken to, and spoken of, demeaningly, but even others like Kamala Harris.

I was particularly thinking about it apropos of a poster here, who in a recent thread referred to Hillary's "cottage cheese thighs."

Now, anyone - or at least any rational person - should agree that this is crazed. First, we could say that it's contemptible to be insulting a woman's competence by referencing her looks. Second, we could point out that it's even more contemptible when referring to an older woman - does this poster expect Hillary to have a body like a Sports Illustrated model? But, third, most importantly, unless he has some secret voyeur thing going on, he has no idea what Hillary's legs look like. She is not parading around in miniskirts or bathing suits.

This means that this guy is spinning fantasies about her, in the worst possible way. This implies such a distasteful combination of hatred and lies, and maybe fear of strong women - and it seems to be a constant thread among Republicans these days.

Why do so many Republicans seem unable to be logical or truthful? Why do so many seem filled with irrational hatred?

IMO, it is a fair question.

So much of what was said about HRC referenced her appearance.

I do not ever take anyone seriously who considers appearance important. Not since I was 18 years old.

But then, I think I am just fine the way G-d created me. No need for hair dye, make up or clothing to enhance the way I look so as to please a man. Taught my children that lesson, too. They learned it well.

The women in my DIL family prematurely greyed. You would not believe the comments she has gotten over the years about coloring her hair.

Just imagine the consequences on Wall Street if women stopped buying cosmetics.

But then. look at all the CD posters who think Ivanka Trump is qualified to be POTUS because she runs a little business and looks pretty.

Like I taught my kids, pretty girls are a dime a dozen. We want competent girls.

I don't think that is the case. Hillary Clinton and her failed record speaks for itself. Most conservative like myself could care like about how she looks. Conservatives care about her laughing at the victims in Benghazi, her terrible legacy as Secratery of State and her promising endless giveaways with taxpayer money for votes.

I think people say things about others all the time. I don't think it has anything to do with political party.

I will say liberals are the most fixated people I have met when it comes to physical appearance.

Not many conservative women on the plains pressured into plastic surgery, because people there care more about the person as a whole.

Liberals are usually the first to focus on "cottage chesse thighs" and other flaws.

Most middle-American conservative are about friends and family no matter what they look like.

It is liberal highly-educated medical specialists in big cities that have billboards and advertisements telling women to have surgery all the time to make them more competitive in the professional workplace.

Plastic surgeons all over liberal cities telling women they need botox, cellulite treatment and surgeries to be competitive.

Hollywood liberals are much more judgemental towards women then conservative middle-America.

Commerce is apolitical.

Buying into it is sad.

This is rich. Conservatives misogyny? Conveniently ignoring the many outings among liberals in Hollyweird this week, Anthony Weiner (such an appropriate name), Bill Clinton, the list goes on and on. But one anonymous person on CD says Hillary has cottage cheese thighs and it's a "war on women".

LOL, there are so many lies in your statement. Where to even start?

Clinton never "laughed" at the Benghazi victims. Show me proof she did. And as far as her legacy, she did a fairly good job as Sec of State especially compared to previous ones.

Speaking of fixations with physical appearances. Conservatives constant reference to women whether they are pretty or not is all over these boards.

LOL, cottage cheese thighs when Conservatives attack Clinton her hers even though she doesn't show her legs.

I live in a conservative area and there are billboards all over advertising plastic surgeons and botox.

And finally, conservatives are much more judgmental of women's looks. Just look at the nastiness they show when it comes to any Democrat woman who speaks out against Trump.

You forgot to mention Shrillery's cankles.

Um...News at 11: Someone has missed thread after thread, and comment after comment within threads, about Trump's "Cheeto" skin, odd hairline, and small hands--many of them by mothers who are are probably wringing their collective hands about "bullying."

So give me a break with the whining about this "strong woman" being picked on. And while you're at it, chuck your air of superiority.

What's really ironic is how unattractive so many old, white Republicans are who are judging HC.

My friends (men and women) and I have discussed this and we agree with the OP. The likelihood of a "matronly" or less than lust-worthy woman's chances are reduced in seeking the highest office. Too many throw backs to the days of females as second class citizens when women were relegated to wives, mothers, teachers, servants roles. Not roles that routinely garnered respect. It was the woman noticed for her beauty and attraction that was most often accorded special regard and deference at the outset.

Still true of a significant segment of society. That flirty, "semi-babe factor" is almost a requirement for a woman to be seen as relevant in areas of our image heavy culture. A leg up for sure. No pun. She USUALLY needs more serious considerations for whatever roles she seeks. Sometimes surface outweighs substance. Hopefully, a woman candidate for president's QUALIFICATIONS and overall CHARACTER would count. But, if this most recent election is any kind of indicator, all bets are off. (If the Cult decides, the first woman prez will probably bring her stripper pole and g-strings---along with her mega-church preacher husband .)

Look at the kind of comments people (of any political stripe) make about Ivanka Trump as compared to those of almost any older woman businessperson or politician you can think of. The bad are usually way less bad for her and the good more glowing. The difference is ---? Younger, more attractive, more lustworthy. Seen as more likable, genteel and, sometimes, as more capable when not necessarily true. People attribute characteristics (and often create gross smears) based on outward perception when they don't know at all how true or untrue their speculation is. Usually don't care. Barring HIGHLY EXCEPTIONAL connection by a mature woman, youth and beauty take the day. Older women are assigned a hard back seat in some sectors of society.

ENLIGHTENED people recognize more and appreciate the value of maturity and experience. Too many dullards, unfortunately, remain.

As Ginger Rogers said about women having to do everything better than men, backward and in high heels. If an older female politician has matured out of her high heels and into pantsuits. Well, Heaven help her, she has yet another strike against her.

It would be interesting to hear what well-known, over 50 females people admire for their accomplishments in the later part life. Not appearance.
