The 84-page document, known as an apostolic exhortation, was the first major work he has authored alone as pope and makes official many views he has aired in sermons and remarks since he became the first non-European pontiff in 1,300 years in March.

In it, Francis went further than previous comments criticising the global economic system, attacking the "idolatry of money", and urged politicians to "attack the structural causes of inequality" and strive to provide work, healthcare and education to all citizens.

He also called on rich people to share their wealth. "Just as the commandment 'Thou shalt not kill' sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, today we also have to say 'thou shalt not' to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills," Francis wrote in the document issued on Tuesday.

Considering the times that we are living in, Frances was the perfect choice as Pope. He's got his priorities straight.

It would have been much more effective had he urged politicians to remember........"Thou Shalt Not Lie."

I've stated before what a breath of fresh air this Pope has been. I'm typically skeptical of religious leaders but I've liked what he's had to say.

From a spiritual standpoint, he's right on cue.

I've always been....contemptuous of the popes. They claim to represent the bible, and don't. It makes it hard to believe anything that the people who claim to share those beliefs.

Then there is this pope. Given his actons and statements, I can't hold him in the same view as I have others in his position. In fact, I respect him. He really is representing his belief system.

Let me get this straight: Sarah Palin calls debt "slavery" and liberals clamor to fill her mouth full of s*it. The Pope says that "wealth inequality" kills and liberals are ready to bow down before him?

Negative net worth is generally fueled by debt. This is a fact. Only in a liberal's diseased brain could one perform such ideological contortionism to willingly ignore that fact.

Actually, debt is not outlawed in the Bible. Usury is something neo-Confederates, especially those who are Christian, embrace wholeheartedly
