The only group that lost tax exempt status from IRS, was a Dem group. Emerge America.
Thanks for that Bob. The conservative groups in question never obtained tax exempt status being sought in the first place because of the targeted reviews being discussed. Not sure what bearing your assertion has on the discussion.
“He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavored to . . . cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.â€
— Article II, Section 1, Articles of Impeachment against Richard M. Nixon, adopted by the House Judiciary Committee, July 29, 1974
The IRS has a problem and it's not just targeting certain groups. They get millions of returns and can't possibly review all of them. Right now they have computer programs that spit out bad returns for various arithmetical reasons, they also specifically target specific groups such as the recent scrutiny of the EIC returns which found lots of fraud.
The only way the IRS could avoid targeting certain returns would be to conduct only random audits. This would not address the massive frauds taking place (like the millions lost in the debit card instant return frauds) and would negatively impact consistently honest small time taxpayers.
So, random audits only and eat the resulting fraud or submit your list of who should and should not be scrutinized?
There was no proof any of the groups that were target by IRS offices all around the country as we now know were committing any sort of fraud. Being that none was found we can conclude they were negatively impacting honest groups with the only common denominator being they were groups the president disagreed with.
If an organization is applying for tax exempt status under 501c4, they are not supposed to spend the majority of their money on political activities. No one has an automatic right to this tax exemption. Thus, asking questions about their political activities, to determine whether the applicant is indeed spending a majority of its money on political activities, is exactly what the IRS should be doing.
sorry, but the IRS went far and beyond legal, and into illegal data mining.
Why do they need to know the relationship to "Justin Bink-Thornas?"
Read the letter sent to the IRS by that legal foundation.
There are ten Amendments which are included in the Bill of Rights. Which specific Amendment says the IRS can't ask questions related to your application for tax-exempt status?
Here's the list. I don't see any that prohibit this.
First Amendment [Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition (1791)]
Second Amendment [Right to Bear Arms (1791)]
Third Amendment [Quartering of Troops (1791)]
Fourth Amendment [Search and Seizure (1791)]
Fifth Amendment [Grand Jury, Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimination, Due Process (1791)]
Sixth Amendment [Criminal Prosecutions - Jury Trial, Right to Confront and to Counsel (1791)]
Seventh Amendment [Common Law Suits - Jury Trial (1791)]
Eighth Amendment [Excess Bail or Fines, Cruel and Unusual Punishment (1791)]
Ninth Amendment [Non-Enumerated Rights (1791)]
Tenth Amendment [Rights Reserved to States or People (1791)]
"We're gonna punish our enemies, and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us" - Barrack Obama; Oct. 23, 2010
So we know that the IRS lied about this happening at all. We then know they lied about it being something that only low level officials were aware of. Then they say that this was something that only dealt with the Cincinnati office.
The Washington Post is now reporting that was also a lie.
IRS officials in Washington were involved in targeting of conservative groups
Internal Revenue Service officials in Washington and at least two other offices were involved with investigating conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, making clear that the effort reached well beyond the branch in Cincinnati that was initially blamed, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.
Come on, you know these liberal sheep don't care about facts, they sticking to the talking points from their masters that it was only "low level" members.
Illegal. Heads will roll over this one way or another.
Which law do they violate?
I think their error is in the fact that they did not treat liberal groups the same way, when they should have. Receiving a tax-free status is not supposed to be automatic for anyone, but obviously everyone needs to receive the same treatment.
