Approval ratings say otherwise. Not bothering to vote doesn't mean you disapprove. It just means you were too lazy to go cast a ballot.

Making up your own reality may make you happy, but it also makes you look like an idiot.
Democrats aren't immune to opposing their own views either. Lot of people decrying Iraq voted for the war there. Lot of people who voted against the Bush expansion of medicare then campaigned against Romney cutting medicare. Campaign against Bush Sr in 1988 for not wanting to raise taxes, then campaign against Bush Sr in 1992 for raising taxes. Obama's second largest campaign contributor is Goldman Sachs in 2008 then in 2009 he makes speech after speech against banks. Similarly, Obama railed on about the bailouts that he himself voted for. He called Bush unpatriotic for wanting to raise the debt ceiling, then raised it himself. Obama's head of his economic recovery board is CEO of a company that outsourced over half its jobs to other countries. Obama's acceptance ceremony for his transparency award was conducted behind closed doors. Nobel peace prize winner Obama launched more drone strikes than warmonger Bush. Protesting Bush was the highest form of patriotism but protesting Obama is racist. Environmentalist Al Gore is famous for using 20 times the national average yearly energy usage. Congress exempted itself from Obamacare. The list goes on and on and on.

Instead of Americans joining forces to vote against higher taxes you voted to hurt other Americans even though it wouldn't be enough money. Key words "not enough money". Why do you think Obama is playing hard ball. He wants everyone to pay higher taxes?

Whenever you wish higher taxes on your neighbor for vengeance, you make Obama smile because they know the neighbor will soon return the favor.

The percentage of voters means next to nothing when comparing public opinion. Citizens, voters and non-voters alike, all have opinions.
The simple fact is: the voters rejected the Republican party this election, period. And they are tired of a non-governing Congress. While both sides can be blamed, the public has blamed the Republicans.

Once tarred, it's hard to clean the tar off. The quicker the Republicans start doing things that meet with public approval the better it is for them. The longer they stick with everything they said and did over the past 4 years, the worse it will be for them in the future. Getting defensive will not change this situation at all.

So uh, the people 'rejected the Republican party' by re-electing a Republican Congress?

How's that work Mike?

Default No cure for stupid

As I mentioned earlier in this forum, this entire fake crisis called the fiscal cliff is entirely a GOP fabrication, meant to bring down the president. This kind of obstruction had never happened prior to 2011. The Pubs were very content with raising the debt ceiling automatically without question when Bush was spending us into oblivion. They were hoping that they'd retake the White house from a vulnerable incumbent, but that didn't pan out. Obama won convincingly.

And these clowns keep trying to tell their followers that they should be in charge. This phony issue is proof positive of their schizophrenia. Now, this monster (fiscal cliff) they created is about to devour them. Hell, they're even eating one another now.

The piece of the puzzle missing here is leadership from the Oval Office. Continuing campaigning after the election is not "leadership". Neither is is making "no compromises" statements. Nor is it having your senior staff and your party's leaders in Congress make the same statement.

Even President Carter "led". President Obama does not.

So you can all you like. Get back to me when you've actually had to lead something and get a goal accomplished and tell me what you've learned.

What the majority of people seem to not realize here is that they President is not a monarch (as much as he would like to think he is) and he does not have absolute control. There is a reason why we have Congress, so that ALL of the people are fully represented. Now I know that representation in government is a dicey thing at best but never the less, we have what we have.

So for all of the people who say we have a mandate since President Obama was re-elected, you are wrong. A Republican House was re-elected too. The system was designed to have this system of checks and balances so that the President nor Congress has absolute control. Unfortunately, it has devolved into petty squabbles rather then both sides working together to actually achieve any progress. The Democrats don't want to listen to the Republicans or propose and real solutions, so the Republicans block what the Democrats are proposing (or not proposing) and we have gridlock.

Personally, I am glad we have the ability to have this system of checks aand balances in place. Especially right now when the Democrats are trying to do more of their failed policies. We have had spending galore for the past 5-6 years and it has made things far worse for everyone in this country.
