I'm betting Trayvon ceded and was getting up and pride + anger kicked in and he pulled out.

Who knows....that makes the most sense to me though.
Trayvon Martin weighed 140-150 pounds. There are girls that weigh that much. Most guys would be able to easily toss off a fella his size. Barring the possibility that he was a ninjitsu master, I'm fairly confident I would have broken him in two.

That said, if Zimmerman was able to toss him off, then why the need for lethal force? If he was able to grab his piece, then why didn't he use it to hammer Martin in the face? That certainly would have been preferable for both parties. Zimmerman would have a broken nose, Martin would have a goose egg and possibly a missing tooth, but they both would have gone home that evening. I really don't see how Zimmerman's case is any different from the hundreds of cases in New York City each year where: (1) there's a confrontation over a craps game/money/drugs/girls; (2) a fight ensues and (3) someone gets killed.

My hypothesis is that Zimmerman got carried away in the moment and employed lethal force when it wasn't necessary. He was probably pissed off that this kid had "dissed" him and didn't realize the seriousness of what he had done until Martin was lying face down in a puddle of his own blood.

Watch out, justNancy, the murderers apologists will want to arm school principals, but only in the inner city, of course. That way the principal can take out the next kid who shoots a spitball at someone.

They said Zimmerman was married, didn't indicate any kids. I hope he has none-really do not morons like him, based on the tapes of his voice and his friend who seemed like an airhead, breeding. The family already had one too many generations of children for the good of society.

Eugenics anyone?

That photo on the left is not of him as a 12 year old. People just don't want to see him as the person below, they are dying to see him as the person flipping off the camera

He had a young looking face

I wonder how people would view the outcome in this scenario:

Martin walks up to Zimmerman and punches him in the nose.

Zimmerman falls to the ground.

Martin pounces on him and slams his head against the concrete.

Zimmerman is able to get enough space to draw his weapon. He fires a single shot.

The bullet strikes a six year old girl in the chest. She dies almost instantly.

Excluding the obvious fact that Martin would be alive to share his side of the story, would you feel that Zimmerman's use of his firearm was warranted under the circumstances? Or would you think he had committed a reckless act?

Yep. We have two questions.

How does a fat guy run down a 17 year old athlete?

How does someone like Zimmerman who out weighs him by that much be over powered?

I am suspicious of both narratives where Zimmerman initiates on the one hand, but why he had to use lethal force on the other.

I also don't know how well Zimmerman even identified himself. I could very well see Martin looking at Zimmerman as a threat.

I think what happened is probably something that just escalated with all the wrong circumstances in place. They both made the wrong decisions. Its just that one paid more than the other. Not sure how much Zimmerman will pay but his life as he knew it is over.

Zimmerman was using self defense against a violent thug under the influence of drugs.

Yup, and i'll bet he spoke with the usual over-the-top teenage rhetoric and stupid "wish I never said that" comments on his Twitter posts.

This is off topic, but teenagers say and do really stupid things that in no way reflect their later adult life, and things like FaceBook and Twitter will hang around some people's necks like a lodestone for decades.
