There will be reports that will say what happened and for sure they would come into play in this case.
If the report says Zimmerman just for no reason charges like a bull, that would be bad, but IMO he would have been charged with assault in that shoplifting case if it were true.
Maybe they were running out of the store and he stopped them?

Race baiter Spike Lee tweets wrong address, twice!
This idiot needs to be charged with something, invasion of privacy, harassment, malicious mischief......whatever fits, and the media is just as guilty, for defamation.

Getting "off the hook" in that scenario probably makes sense to most people. The focus would not be on how big and bad YOU are as the assailant. The focus would instead be on whether my reaction was a reasonable one.

The focus in the Trayvon Martin case, however, seems to be on everything but the reasonableness of the shooter. We're more concerned about "grills," criminal records, and who started what rather than the common sense of the shooter, which is really the only thing that's going to matter at the end of the day. Hopefully, a jury will get to decide whether Zimmerman acted reasonably after all of the evidence is in. I think I would have a hard time acquitting him because I don't see how the use of lethal force was necessary.

Zimmerman may add more to his story if he testifies. But I doubt he will. Why subject yourself unnecessarily to what's going to be a very harsh, thorough and intense cross-examination? He'd be better off just asserting the Fifth. But after reading his statement (or reading about his statement), I'm still wondering why he felt threatened to the extent that lethal force was the only option.
That's something everyone here needs to pay attention to. In order to use lethal force, you have to have a reasonable belief that your life is in danger to the extent of great bodily harm or worse.

That's going to be the hardest part to prove. We already know and Zimmerman has admitted to shooting Martin. You can't shoot someone in self-defense without shooting someone first. Just on that information alone, you have manslaughter. Zimmerman now has to prove his case that the use of lethal force was justified. In a shooting, "self-defense" is not the null hypothesis.

Zimmerman isn't the only one undergoing scrutiny. The Sanford PD's utter failure to examine the case is being examined as well, as the shooting death of anyone is homicide. It requires an investigation to decide if it was justifiable or not.

I look forward to the trial.

Trayvon was a juvenile, so his records are sealed. You don't know what he did, but it sounds like he was well on his way to the correction facility.
It was George Z sceaming for help, while Trayvon tries to take his gun.

Let's take Zimmerman completely at his word.

Martin's on top of him and "giving him the business." He's helpless. He's crying for someone, anyone to come to his rescue. Martin goes for the gun. In a scene reminiscient of "Saving Private Ryan" where the American Jewish soldier takes a slow knife to the heart, Martin and Zimmerman battle for the gun. Zimmerman eventually wins and discharges a bullet into Martin's chest.

Questions...

If Martin was on top of Zimmerman struggling for possession of the gun, then how would he wind up with a shot to the chest? Think about that for a moment. Put your hands down by your sides and tell me how you would be able to position yourself to shoot someone in the chest if they're mounting you.

Now let's say that Martin was in a UFC-style mount and pummeling Zimmerman. Zimmerman grabs his gun from his waistband (forget how unfeasible that seems) and blasts Martin in the chest. We can even assume that the gun had fallen by his side so that he didn't have to reach in his waistband. Why didn't Zimmerman just take the gun and go upside Martin's head with it?

Let's go a step further and say that Martin was pummeling him UFC-style and he grabs the gun. He tries to point it at Martin, but Martin grabs the gun and tries to turn it away from him. Zimmerman is able to slowly turn the gun toward Martin (like in Hot Shots Part Deux where Charlie Sheen tries to stab Saddam with a chicken or something) and fires a shot into his chest. But if that were the case, wouldn't Zimmerman have had blood on his shirt from when Martin collapsed? Martin was found face down, which means he fell forward after the shot.

I dunno...can anyone else think of a scenario where Zimmerman does not distance himself from Martin to shoot? Once you distance yourself (with a gun) from your assailant (who's unarmed), the threat ends there, in my view (unless your name is Bob Sapp, Bruce Lee or Zangief from Street Fighter).

This is why I think the ballistics and expert testimony will play such a vital role in the trial. If he shot Martin from four to six feet away, I don't think I'd be able to acquit him. It's not reasonable, in my mind, that an armed person would be fearful of an unarmed person at a distance of four to six feet. And it's not reasonable to believe that lethal force was necessary when two guys would have probably continued to roll around in the grass for a few more minutes until a neighbor broke it up or the cops came. This should have been, at worst, nothing more than a good, old-fashioned brawl.

Any focused teenager who is sooo in love with sports and a good student is not acting like this...Just stating that the parents want to make him look like a saint, but reality is different...!

There are 2 sides to every story and with so many buglaries in this community it isn't strange that home owners want to look out for their belongings and all were committed by a certain type of people...according to neighobring statements.

Btw the guy lived in Miami...what was he doing there and how did Zimmerman end up with a bloody nose and the other things...in that small time frame.

Dead is not what anybody deserves but what is happening to Zimmerman is also outrages to have a bounty on his head...what kind of world do we live in.
