By the time our economy recovers, 70% of all Americans will be hooked on some sort of government assistance, as I see it.

How will they be weaned off?

If the economy recovers, that means there are more jobs. A think a job helps very well with the weaning process.

It's a daunting task. How on earth do you get a Wall St. crook to settle for a 48 ft yacht instead of a 120' feedship, they'll be kicking and screaming all the way to the clubhouse.

You can't wean them off. -- And the economy isn't going to recover with 70% of Americans on government assistance.

Also it's not just Americans living off welfare handouts, there are millions of illegals here doing that also, and more coming.

Many people prefer to work because it pays a lot better. Some, as the Sgt. says, will never let themselves get forced off the govermnment nipple.

That's just the way the left wants it. Which party do you suppose those on the dole vote for?

Well, can you define the terms? Which programs do you consider to be government assistance, and what are the current ratios for all of those?

MOST of the people that are on public assistance that were employed WANT TO WORK!

There is no way that public assistance is every going to match the pay of a good paying job.

The entire premise of the thread is much ado about nothing and shows a remarkable lack of understading and compassion for what many Americans are experiencing these days.

Mexican Remittances Climb 4.7% | Fox News Latino

I don't know how much they want the unemployed Americans want to work - I saw the job fair lines in Georgia on the news the other day and it did seem to me that those people really want to work.

But you can thank the politicians. It's not all about cheap foreign labor - foreign labor that is doing so very well that it can send many billions of dollars out of the country. Billions of dollars - forever gone from the USA economy.
