The suggestion seems like political publicity stunt. The fact is that Israel is an ally and is surrounded my hostile/potentially hostile states. Leaving Israel to the wolves would be like abandoning Western Europe post WW2/the Cold War or abandoning S. Korea to the psycopathy of Kim Jung Il.
First of the all, the USA should cut foreign aid to Egypt which gets the 2nd most American aid after Israel.
This should be done even before considering cutting off American aid to Israel.
Finally, someone serious about cutting the budget. Of course, it doesn't stand a snow ball's chance of happening, but, I applaud the suggestion and am actually writing to his office to tell him so:

I am completely for cutting aid. We have our own to take care of and can't currently afford to do so. When will we take care of our own house before helping others?
