We can also do what I did as a kid. Take a cinder block , make some mud and water into pretend chocolate frosting and * ice * the cinder block and pretend its a cake . We can pretend cement is cake, right ?
The GOP doesn't really care about this issue, if they did, they would have demanded pay go for defense spending. But they don't, instead the cut taxes and borrowed money to finance their wet dreams in the Middle East. This is nothing but a pathetic attempt to appease their gullible base into thinking they actually give two hoots about spending, at the expense of Americans who need help the most. I can't think of anything more scummy than that.

I don't know where you have been for the past 4 years but, the repubs have NOT been in control of the purse strings for 4 years. The dems have had the majorities in both houses. So, if any money has been appropriated for the wars in the Middle East it is because the dems have voted for them.

You'll certainly be looking to burn coal to heat your abode as will I if electricity rates and the cost of ALL types of energy skyrocket under Obama's policies. We all will become poor. For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets.
And where was Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009.
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

During Bush's last two years in office he basically got everything he wanted, the budget everything. The GOP had record filibusters (until they broke it again the last two years).
When Obama took office the budget for 2009 was already in the red $1.3 trillion based off what Bush signed.
