I'll chime in as well...Penn Hills, while it has some rough spots, is a wonderful place to live. I never lock my doors, have wonderful neighbors, and have never had any issues at all.

The reason I resurrected this post is because a Google search for "Is Penn Hills Safe" highlights a "Featured Snippet" from this thread from 2006 that makes Penn Hills sound like a warzone. So I added my own experience to the post and reported the "Snippet" to Google hoping they'll change it.

Fact is Penn Hills is a wonderful community, and we have the same problems as pretty much any community around Pittsburgh, and maybe a couple unique ones... But bottom line is that it's very safe to live here.

I live in plum but frequently drive through Penn hills. Most of the township has affordable housing and a blue collar vibe, far from dangerous. Biggest hindrance I see is the horrid school district

i think Penn Hills will do pretty well over the next 5 years. Things are looking up, but the school isn't that great, but it might do okay in a few years from now. Penn Hills has a good location and affordable for now.

Default Penn Hills is Very Safe

Penn Hills is very safe well below the national average for crime across all factors. Housing prices are affordable. Taxes are low. Penn Hills is very large and does get negative feedback by web users, but most negative posters either do not live in Penn Hills or they are part of the problem. It is a great area to start and grow a family as I did. It is not where you live but how you choose to live.

Income tax rate is 4.8%. Total millage is 39.84 And the school district is 172 million in debt. Everything else you said is true.
