The Bloomfield Foodland was Horrific....Not sure what Sure-Save is like....but I wouldn't touch that Foodland with a 10 foot pole....Same with the GE on Plummer Street in L'ville.

It was either Waterworks, Centre/Negley, or Shakespeare GE's.

I'm not sure what to say. On one side I'm sad to see the loss of competition but on the other hand, a lot of Copeland stores aren't in good shape.

How are the prices at the Beechview IGA? The Oakland one seems a tad expensive but I figured it was because it's in Oakland.

The one in Shaler on Mt. Royal Blvd. closed probably four years ago and is now a Dollar Tree. There's a nice Shop 'N Save (for Shop 'N Save) a few minutes away and a brand new Giant Eagle just down the hill on Route 8 so I don't think it was much of a loss. I'd never even been to the Foodland.

In Greensburg we used to have a variation of Foodland called Foodland Fresh which was a tad bigger than a typical Foodland. It's been since converted into a Shop 'n Save though.

I have family up near Kittanning. I just remembered, there's a nice big Foodland up there near the Wal-Mart. That Foodland is the largest, nicest Foodland I can think of. I wonder if it will hang on. Either way, it's modern and the size of a normal grocery store. If memory serves me correctly, it was built in 1992, so it's not all that old.

Foodland at Curry Hollow Center (Baldwin/Pleasant Hills area) closed a week or two ago. As far as I know, no plans on anything else opening up there.
Prices were high, but the owners were really nice folks. Their whole family worked there everyday just like common people and they would special order certain items that you couldn't find anywhere else.
I think the shoplifting situation in that area killed them.

When I lived in Mt. Oliver, I found the one there convenient. More selection than the size would indicate, good prices, and they had the most amazing popcorn made fresh in their deli. I sort of missed it when I moved. Kind of sad, but doesn't seem like they kept up with the times.

Well I come from the old foodland days , We were number [one] we had the best advertising then in washing pa. where my store was.KROGERS, ACME, A&P, THOREFAIR, All went by the way side. then the unions were strong and for that time we had to work close to the bone. I miss that time of my life wish I was back there . had many good friends. if any one reads this lets keep this going . LARRY MARTIN

Wow an Evergrey thread. Haven't heard from him in ages. He was a good contributor here. I also miss grocery choices, but there are some replacements that have come along. Whole Foods, Aldi and Trader Joes to name a few. I don't think Giant Eagle will continue to do that well in our region, but so many fall for that fuel perk thing.
