What are the nicknames of towns in your area? In my area, Greensburg is GBG and Jeannette is J-Town, whereas Youngwood is known by some as Scumwood.

I'm not aware of nicknames for towns, but there are nicknames for residents. For example, Sharpsburg residents are called River Rats.

I will refrain from any more nicknames of residents of particular neighborhoods for fear of being politically incorrect.

I do know why some neighborhoods in my neck of the woods were named. Etna was named after Mt. Etna in Sicily because the fires of many factories lit upthe sky like a volcanic eruption. Blawnox, which used to be called Hoboken, was re-named after Mr. Blaw and Mr. Knox opened a major factory there in the late 1800s called Blaw-Knox. O'Hara Twp. was named after General James O'Hara, who used to scout around the area with Chief Guyasuta, who lived in the area.

Hi Yac!
Frisky Amish. I have traveled to Bird in Hand which led to Intercourse which led to Paradise which led to Fertility. It was kind of like Meatloaf's song Paradise by the dashboard light. I did this all in Amish Country. Now I'm praying for the end of time.

True story: growing up in the Detroit area, to get to our house from I-75, you got off on Exit 69, Big Beaver Road.

Edit: and of course since this is the Internet era . . .
