If the Big 3 Automakers go under it is going to have a dramatic impact on many areas of the country.

Do any of the Big 3 Automakers have Plants or Parts suppliers in the Pittsburgh region? If so, how many are employed.

Western NY will be hit hard if just GM goes under but if we lose all three companies it will have a catastrophic effect on the nation's economy.

I thinks it's a GM plant out there, and I remember reading over the summer that it was about to close.

I believe there is a stamping plant in the Pittsburgh region. Also if you include areas like sharon, hermitage, and new castle, i'm sure there are some people in those areas that work at the Lordstown, Ohio plant. Also, when i worked for Delphi Automotive in Warren, Ohio many of my coworkers were from towns like Greenville, Hermitage, Sharon, etc in Pa.

USS is the largest domestically owned integrated steel producer in the United States. It is based in Pittsburgh.

PPG is a manufacturer of, amongst other things, automotive safety glass, paints, and coatings.

I would also like to add Alcoa. Alcoa is the world's third largest producer of aluminum.

I'm sure they would be affected. WCI Steel in Warren is already suffering a little due to lack of orders from the automotive industry. We also have an Alcoa over here.

Ugh. In my attempt to relocate I am finding that virtually each of the communities (save for one in NY) that I have in my final list will be seriously impacted by this problem. CortlandGirl79, you were smart to get out of the industry and apparently a degree.:-) Ain't it funny how they are handing over our money to the banks to be spent in any way they see fit but they won't help the automotive industry to stay afloat. We'll lose our ability to manufacture our own tanks and armored personal vehicles if we lose GM and Ford. Imagine trying to equip our army by purchasing from a foreign country. Just like 3rd world countries...

I payed my way through college with manual labor jobs from working with sheet metal to public works. Ironically, I lost my job anyway despite a M.S. degree. UGH.
