Although it is outside of Pittsburgh, Fede Pasta in Irwin, which supplies many Pittsburgh restaurants with handmade pasta (including Point Brugge and the Elbow Room), recently opened its own restaurant in its warehouse. I've gone twice now and have been quite impressed with the food and the service. If anyone feels like going for a drive, it's definitely on par with some of Pittsburgh's italian places. It's also BYOB with NO corkage fee.

More details here
The owners are friends of ours, and I feel confident the place will be great. It will definitely be smoke free and the menu will be small but high quality.

If they have good beer, decent food and the place is fun to hang out, I suspect they might quickly become our friends too

Any idea when they'll open?

I feel pretty confident it will meet your needs. Not exactly sure when it will open--I keep hearing 'soon'.

I actually had no idea either. I've been there a few times with colleagues. Wasn't a bad place to gather and imbibe. Not everything in the East End has to be "trendy".

It would be great if it was a nice bar without 100 televisions in it. I find that so off putting. I understand that people want to go to bars to watch sports but it seems like there are no TV-free bars anymore.
