This is a random question, but yinz tend to be more reliable than Yelp: I have friends driving through the area on I-70 tomorrow, and they want to meet for a late lunch/early dinner somewhere around Washington, PA (that seems easiest for both parties.) I'm not all that familiar with the area, but somewhere un-chainy and yet near the highway would be a good thing. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Trinity point is right off of the exit in Washington. The area has Max and Ermas, Lone Star steak house, Red Robbin, Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster, Panera and a few other cheaper places.

I personally recommend max and Erma's even though it is a chain. The burgers are really good as are most of the entrees. I can't recall anything in that area that is not a chain though.

Thanks, shadowfax. That area sounds like our best bet.

More wonderfulness at Antney's Ice Cream. On a recent visit, Anthony informed me that they roast all the nuts they use in their ice cream and toppings. Yum!

Westwood, in the West End of the city proper---not far from Crafton. It's awesome! Anthony, the owner, is a very nice guy. GoodJules introduced me to this place, and I still leave the East End Bubble from time to time to enjoy a tasty frozen treat!

Oh snap, this is right on my drive home from our recently relocated office! I have so many reasons to hate where we're at (hint: not on Stanwix Street anymore), and have been considering leaving Pittsburgh rather than work in this deplorable location/building, but I've been finding a few little gems that make me hate it slightly less. Hopefully this is one I can add to the list!

That is a depressing story. I am thankful I work for an employer who will never leave Downtown.

Majorly, I don't want to derail the thread any further, so I'll find another one to tack on or start something new.

I live way too close for my waistline! It's one of the few things I'll go outside for in this heat. They just have walk-up windows for ordering and outdoor seating. I took a friend who has lived in Pittsburgh for many years, but is originally from the Bay Area. We describe Antney's as "San Francisco good."
