I have accepted a job in gilbert, az and am wondering if it is to far of a commute to drive from queen creek? How long does it acctually take to drive during normal hours and during rush hour? We really would like to rent a newer/larger home (4 bed) yet still be close to everything. We have small children. Suggestions?

I know people who live in Queen Creek and commute to downtown so I would expect your commute would be a piece of cake. Never driven it but Google Maps shows it at 15 miles. Queen Creek is not going to be "close to everything" as it in the far east valley. Why not live in Gilbert or one of the other east valley cities that are closer "to everything"?

Well the office is west of central gilbert so it probabbly is a little further. We have also been looking in Maricopa but I have heard traveling on I10 is horrible. Is that true? Which would most prefer Queen creek or Maricopa. Also what is there to do in both towns?

Yes! You can get a great deal for your money in Queen Creek, and the commute would be reasonable.

Parts of Queen Creek border Gilbert, and the town extends pretty far South, so there is that margin to consider.

Definitely better than Maricopa for commute time, I too have heard the 10 going East is a very busy rush hour commute.

If you're talking Queen Creek, it shouldn't be a bad commute at all. If you're including San Tan Valley, I would guestimate the commute to be 45 minutes at the most.

One advantage that the Queen Creek/San Tan Valley has over Maricopa, is that there are several ways in and out. No freeways yet, but if there is an accident, there are several alternatives. In Maricopa, if there is a bad accident on the 347, your options are limited.

It's doable, although I'd live in Gilbert if I were you. Maricopa would be a tougher commute than QC.

As far as things to do.......I'd say both towns are very similar. Neither area has a movie theater or bowling alley. I would say Queen Creek/San Tan Valley has more shopping, however, Chandler Fashion Center is only about an 18 minute drive from Maricopa. They both have golf courses. Queen Creek area has the San Tan Regional Park, if you're into hikiing/horseback riding. It also has the Horseshoe Equestrian Park, if you're interested in horses. Maricopa has several casino's nearby, which would mean more live entertainment and possibly finer diing. Both areas have fast food and sports bars. I prefer the views in Queen Creek/San Tan Valley.

Did you have anything specific in mind?

My husband sometimes work in Gilbert and we live pretty far east in STV (ironwood/ocotillo). It only takes 25 mins tops to get to Gilbert as long as there isn't a traffic jam.

There are many affordable and newer rental homes in Power Ranch, which is technically Gilbert but nearing Higley/Queen Creek area. That seems like a nice area to meet new people and have family amenities.

18 minutes from Maricopa to Chandler Mall? Only if you exceed the speed limit.

Horseshoe Park in Queen Creek is only a destination if there's actually an event going on. Otherwise, it's empty, but a nice place for the events that do happen there.
