In this ever changing world of equality and fairness boy's and girl's should be raised equally.
A women no longer has the same responsibility's as she did compared to her ancestors. Cooking and cleaning is no longer a necessity for the modern day strong and independent woman of today. She has an equal chance of competing and THRIVING in what was once thought of as a 'mans world'.

If little girls are interested in building, tools, and cars that was once only thought for boys instead of the traditional baby dolls/ tea sets then so be it. Empower your girl and let her become successful in life. independent and free of a man in her adult life for her own personal conquest to make it on top in the corporate ladder. Take a look at this interesting product geared towards children(girls)...

And the same goes along with little boys who want to dress in pink and play with barbies is 100% ok in my opinion. Society should be more open minded and NOT stuck in the past with the previous 'traditional' way of living.

What are your thoughts/opinions?

It's been going on for some time now -- and yet you still see women today wearing silly high heels that put them at risk of a ankle fracture, and women still seeming to love shopping for hours. I don't know why. I also see women still not changing their own tires or doing any maintenance on their cars like changing the oil. I still see girls screaming over spiders and acting frilly.

What's wrong with that? I wear high heels occasionally, enjoying shopping, have someone do my car maintenance for me and I can't say I'm a particularly big fan of spiders. Yet, I am still independent, know that I do not need a man to do everything for me, and I have a fairly high-powered position in the corporate world in which I am "above" some men. It's not an either or thing, and this notion that anything girly=not worthwhile is strange to me.

I don't see that many men, even younger ones prancing around on those super high heels and risking ankle injuries. I wonder if things have really changed all that much is all -- women are being taught they are equal to men but it's not very evident that they are buying into it. Independent women are nothing new, my great grandmother was extremely self-sufficient as well as some great aunts and aunts. They could do what few men today could do.

At least do you take your car into a shop with female mechanics?

Our lives have various areas to it. In the mating/dating realm, as a mostly hetero female, my attraction queues are female looking. I wear heels sometimes when DH and I go out.

When I go to an auto mechanic, I go to the best auto mechanic I can find. When we lived elsewhere, that was run by a woman. Here the one we use is run by a man. And the car always works. I know men and women alike who post to facebook on the merits of retail therapy. They know what their interests are. More power to them.

The key is to allow your children to grow up valuing themselves. Who they are and whom they want to be.

Well, someone has to do the cooking and cleaning. You can eat all your meals out, you can hire a cleaning person (who most likely will be a woman), but you can't escape it.

Last time I checked, girls were different from boys!

So far as I am concerned, it is up to the girl or boy - their choice. If they want to do traditional girl / boy things (be different than the opposite sex), then fine with me. Or if a girl wants to be more like a boy or a boy wants to be more like a girl (do girl things), then fine with me too.

I wouldn't force a girl to play with dolls if she preferred to play with tools (or the opposite).

I have two little boys, 3.5 and 13 months, and all my friends have girls. No matter how pink the rooms are, those little boys always seek out the rare tool or ball to play with, and ignore the dolls, the tea pots, whatever. They have several opportunities a week to play with that stuff and yet they simply don't care for it. I had a kitchen, dolls, all that - and they've been ignored since day 1, for trucks.

I understand what you are saying.

Woman can either be cooking and cleaning if that's what they truly enjoy but they are no longer limited this one track mind. Their potential is unlimited in this modern day world of today.
