Hi everyone. My wife and I will be passing thru Philly in early August. If you only had time to try one, where do you think we should go to try a REAL Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. Thanks for your suggestions.

Stay away from Geno's or Pat's (unless it's 3:00 a.m. and you are drunk). Personally, I think the best cheesesteaks are served at many of the not famous pizza shops in the city. So just walk along and stop in any one of the many you will see. It's Philly, so it's hard not to find a real Phllly Cheesesteak. (And it's a cheesesteak - not a cheesesteak sandwich )

Are you already stopping anywhere in Philadelphia or literally driving through. If we know where you are going to be, or on what highway you'll be passing through, that would help with some specific recommendations.

For instance I know of a couple of good spots in Roxborough (which is NW philadelphia)Dallesandro's and Chubby's which are across the street from each other, just up the street from Walnut Ln and Henry Ave.

Steves Prince of Steaks - Philly Cheese Steaks
My brother ordered from Steves (the one on Comly Rd.) for the first time about two weeks ago. He said their cheesesteaks were awful. The meat was sliced way too thick, and the roll was just average (obviously, not Amoroso). He said he'd never go back.

That was kinda my experience at Campo's last week. Not impressed. Bread was ok, but it was like chewing on a worn shoe sole. Not much flavor either. The cheesesteaks at my local stores are way better and half the price.
