THE REAL PHILLY SANDWICH is NOT a "Cheesesteak" !!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheesesteaks are over over-rated. Period.

The REAL Philly sandwich is a roast pork sandwich with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe on (preferably) a Sarcone's roll.

... and stay away from anything on an Amoroso's roll unless you like spongy bread ...

You can't get a bad roast pork sandwich at DiNic's at Reading Terminal Market ...

(now I'm in for it!)
I agree completely. Nothing beats a really good hot roast pork sandwich. DiNics is great as well as John's Roast Pork in South Philly. Another option would be a chicken cheese-steak from Ishkibbles on South Street-simply amazing.

Default Near Independence Hall

We will be at Independence Hall tomorrow. Where in that vicinity would we get a good Philly cheesesteak sandwich? Thanks Much!

Probably too late, but I rather enjoyed Carmens or Georges in the Reading Terminal, not too far from Independence Hall.

Pork sandwich is not a cheesesteak.

What you and Clark Park said. I also grew to like the chicken-cheese more than the cheesesteak when I worked at a bar beneath Simon's Steaks down South St from Ishakibble (quite good). Does Simon still have a steak shop on Stenton Ave?

Besides that, I am from West Tennessee. Hog capital of the world. I hardly think I need to go all the way to Philly for pork!

Barry from Barrys Steaks is the original award winning cook from Delli,s . He left to open his own place around 20 yrs ago, and has been doing great ever since. A true neighborhood gem.

Go to Cosmis Deli, they have some of the best cheesesteaks in my opinion. Also, Max's Steaks is great! You really can't go wrong with Jim's Steaks either, tourist trap that they are, they still make a solid cheesesteak. Since you're passing through and won't have time to really hunt down the very best stops, I'd advise you to go to South street, stop by Jim's steaks to pick up a cheesesteak, maybe get a waterice on the way at Ritas and enjoy the city.
