Also a huge overhaul for the crappy retail center at 17th & Chestnut. Not as good as tearing it down, but still a huge improvement.

Also a great rebuttal from Paul Levy (CCD President) regarding "Taxadelphia". The article he responded to can be accessed in the rebuttal.

Yeah, agreed. As simply pointed out in the first few paragraphs, using revenue per individual is absolutely meaningless in nearly every context. It truly seems that members of the 'Working Families Party' suffer from severe brain rot.

Pennsylvania House passes bill that would reduce state's corporate net income tax

Speaking of taxes, the PA House finally passed Tom Wolf's proposed business tax cut. I'm sure Marc Stier is a nice guy (the guy who wrote the initial op-ed about taxes not being high), but his whole argument was not based in reality.

To think the 9.99% corporate state tax, plus the BIRT, plus the Wage Tax, plus the sales tax, plus the regular income tax, etc., etc. has no effect on growth or at least new business growth is straight up ludicrous.

One local tax reform I'd like to see is the elimination of the gross-receipts portion of the BIRT.

Paying taxes on your business operation even if it's losing money (which many startups do in their first years) strikes me as a serious deterrent to new business formation.

ISTR Mayor John Street pausing the incremental reductions of the wage tax in favor of bigger cuts in this tax, but I don't think Michael Nutter pursued this further (taking office just as a huge recession hits kinda puts a damper on such things), and, of course, our current mayor hasn't said boo about tax reform.

The summer of 2026 is going quite a busy one for Philly, you have the country's 250th birthday, the MLB All-Star game and possible World Cup games.....................oh, you also have the PGA Championship in May 2026 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square!

The Delaware waterfront is going to look very different in the coming years. And, most of these projects are either already underway or fully funded. Unlike previous years, most of these will probably come to fruition...

Nice overview. The Penn's Landing I-95 cap can't come soon enough. That's going to change the city's connectivity and perception of the waterfront in a profoundly positive way.
