I hadn't heard that there was any effort to bring it back from the dead, though were that to happen, I'd definitely support it.

Of course, I suspect the buffoonery you speak of extends beyond this one instance. My firebrand colleague Ernest Owens has an essay running today urging Philly's elected officials to come out in favor of a (likely?) Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling in favor of the cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, which have sued the Commonwealth over the issue of allowing cities to enact stricter gun controls than the state allows. (Yup, the urban-rural divide rears its head again.)
After the South Street shooting, frustration mounts over the Pennsylvania law that keeps Philly from passing its own gun control

Report: Philadelphia might be in the running for WNBA expansion

I cannot say I'd be a big follower, as I barely pay attention to the Sixers but this would be great for the city. I am sure the goal would be to make the Wells Fargo Center but many WNBA teams have wound up in smaller venues. I think that route would be great, WFC is super busy, I think they would be a good fit at the Liacouras Center, have another 15-20 events will really help the area. And also, an ownership group with Dawn Staley and Wanda Sykes? Count me in.

A nice project.

Reading Terminal Market starts work on 'transformation' adding outdoor dining, event space

https://www.bizjournals.com/philadel...Pos=0#cxrecs_s

"Reading Terminal Market is eyeing a fall 2022 completion for a long-awaited "festival street" that will leverage outdoor space in front of one of Philadelphia's most popular attractions."

"Dubbed by Reading Terminal and city officials as a "transformation project," the overhaul of the 1100 Filbert Street will add outdoor dining space, pop-up retail kiosks and have the capacity to hold events. Annie Allman, the general manager of the 130-year-old market, said at the project's groundbreaking Tuesday that it will allow the street to be shut down for events like the Reading Terminal Market Harvest Festival or the Philly Ice Cream Scoop."

"More specifically, the project will double the width of the sidewalk outside the market, and remove the curb on Filbert Street, making for about 15,000 square feet of public space just outside the market's eastern facade. The plan for the plaza was originally laid out in 2019, but was derailed due to the pandemic. A.P. Construction will take point on the project."

Major development in the Grays Ferry neighborhood: https://www.pennovation.upenn.edu/ne...t-new-facility

Really think Grays Ferry has a ton of potential to take off in the next few years. It's already started for sure. Less resistance than Point Breeze.

Absolutely, fantastic new! And Longfellow is a real "A-team" player of the the life sciences industry; the fact that they're making such a big investment in the Philly market is a real feather in the city's cap and is incredibly promising.

Heard through the grapevine in another online forum that Philadelphia is a top contender for the 2026 World Cups. Host cities announced on 6/16/22, and apparently a watch party at City Hall.

I hope we get it but I better not be expected to pretend to care about soccer for 2 weeks.
