Good pics cosmic, so far the jury is still out waiting on all the evidence lol, i did notice you kept your distance from that lil red ford at the construction site also lol.

if i had to give an opinion based on this so far, it doesn't look too bad other than the cold & snow, lots of older towns look that way & with the hills space may be limited so therefore they have to make use of every bit of half level land they can get so that may be why some homes are built close.

i surely wouldn't want to pay the utility bills on those big old houses that's for sure, but so far i would give it a thumbs up.

i would be interested in seeing what the outskirts of town look like, think you could make another run .

now for the off the wall questions, what kind of car are you driving it has no hood lol.
looks like they use a lot of sand up north on the roads, these idiots down here need to take lessons from that.

I also saw that the one dark blue Dodge Stratus sedan that was making a left-hand turn towards you from one of the side streets in one of your downtown pictures looked to have the faint hint of a front-mounted New York license plate on it. If the New Yorkers that visit Oil City are anything like the New Yorkers that visit the Poconos, then those townspeople are in for a rude awakening of urban sprawl in the upcoming years! If the New Yorkers are starting to discover Oil City, then NAH better purchase his home SOON before it triples in value and gets bulldozed for an IKEA. LOL!

Many of them are 3 stories with basement=lots of total square footage of space! http://www.petrucciforum.com/forums/images/smilies/drool.gif (broken link) And at $50k the price is right and those houses within reach!
The snow(whats left of it) looks soooooooo pretty! How was the weather? 50 degrees or so? Im supprised the locals arent in shorts and tshirt. I have gone out in 50 degrees(it occasionally gets that cool in south FL) in shorts and tshirt. Wasnt really cold as long as I was walking or exercising.

Theres not really anything bad to say. Some old buildings in the downtown plaza. Some narrow crooked streets but dont have to buy a house in that area. There is a superwalmart either in Oil city or right by Oil city, google map says so.

Sure hope Oil city doesnt get a house bubble until I have a nice big house there. Doubt the New Yorkers can ruin Oil city, its not even close to NY.

Anyway I really wanna visit Oil city and probably move there asap, maybe even this summer if my home business kicks off.

Nope not for a while. My BIL goes up into PA a lot. I probably will go on a few of the trips in the summer. Might be nice to see it again in summer or even the fall, but the winter is nice to see it at its worse. Don't want to go if it is very hot.

That car is a 2007 Toyota Yaris hatchback and yup there is just about zero hood. One of the very nice features, you get a terrific view of the road, great in parking lots. You are setting way up front and about as high as most smaller SUV's. They moved the instrument panel into the middle. Didn't think I would like it but wouldn't have it any other way now. You can see stuff that was usually hidden under the steering wheel. Plus it let them put in 3 glove boxes, one of those is under the steering wheel. Put down the back seat and you can haul a lot of trash. Assistant sleeps back there.

You don't see many of them because so far they are limited production. My relatives work for Toyota so I pulled some strings to get mine for the good guy price. Really does over 40 MPG and cruises like a much bigger car. A/C and electric power steering standard in a 1500 cc engine. Very well engineered. Got to love it on longer trips, I only had to tank up twice (huge 11 gallon tank) on the run down to Florida this winter, figured I got 43 MPG for the trip overall.

That grit / sand is standard. Oil City probably has to use a lot of salt on those hills too. In SE Ohio they use a very large black grit, like 1/8 - 1/4" stuff looks horrible after snow melts but they then just sweep it up and use it over and over again.

I couldn't get any impression how frugal a place like Oil City might be in terms of how they do things. SE Ohio is extremely frugal, hence our very low taxes. I didn't see any gross things that needed to be fixed in terms of streets, public spaces, etc. Roads in fairly good shape to be coming out of the winter season.

Trust me, a lot of us do embrace these warm temperatures. I was just out running shirtless the other day when it was in the 50s, and it felt AWESOME after months of waking up to temperatures near 0. I even worked up a sweat! GRRRRR, BABY, GRRRRR!! ME LOVIN' THIS PA HEAT WAVE!

Nice pics you were one street up from where I was,I was on west seventh,if you went down that road it winds towards cranberry that is where the walmart and cranberry mall is.It took me 5 minutes to get there. So technically it is not in oil city but cranberry, along that area is also tacobell,subway..ect.

The cranberry mall website http://www.cranberrymall.com/

I see they are getting a new and improved cinema opening in the spring.

Also the oil creek state park does have hiking and biking trails, that would have been past the Hoss's steak house if you were in that area.

I don't know if they are from New York but I would not be surprised. Based on a conversation with a contractor type guy, he said some of the better homes were owned by big city type folks. Maybe from Pittsburgh for like second homes.

My impression the buying already has been going on for some time. Difficult to understand where the contractors would get their materials support. Those type houses require some stuff that can be difficult to find.

I think NAH is in for some surprises with his type game plan. The locals are probably a bit different from Florida. Again based on a few comments by the contractor guy. He had worked in Florida (Lakeland) and left because of all the problems. Apparently he would like to play the housing market in Oil City but maybe was not as well fixed for funds, didn't have a newer truck. We probably chatted for 30 minutes, was maybe the best information I got.

A lot of that realtor type listings, especially like from Realtor(dot)com is a form of "House Trolling" those great real estate agents do. You can't actually buy that house. I ran into when I tried to buy several on my move back to Ohio.

Anybody that believes every thing on the Web might like to buy a few shares in a bridge I just happen to be selling now.

This place is kind of nice! A lot better than that flat hell hole called Miami! Who knew than trees could exist in the same area as homes! SHHH, the Miami people might come with their chainsaws!
