I was thinking of this while watching TV while Nightline was showing Oil City. It really doesn't look that bad compared to many places in Florida.

Hello! I live in oil city. I have all my life. My house is on the "driving tour". The jacked up one with the correct wiring! { it is 200 amp service} Anyway, oil city is a nice place if you kind of prefer the slow lane. There is no Disneyworld or sixflags around the corner, there are drugs in the area. They can be had in any small town in america. I am positive it is much worse in the "cultural" areas of the country, like new york city or miami. We do have a beautiful river for fishing, boating, kayaking, more miles of bike trails that I have even riden, natural beauty and wild life. I 've been around and I chose to stay and enjoy the fresh air and water. It isn't shangri-la, but to alot of people it is close. Come spend a day on the river!

Living in Oil City, I assure you. All pictures were of the worst possible locations. If I did not know any better I would think Cosmic was trying to poke fun at our Fair City.

Cosmic - I have always been curious about Oil City and all its beautiful old inexpensive houses. THANK you so much for going up there and taking some photos of the general area for everyone to see. The houses you call "seedy" I wouldn't call seedy at all, maybe a bit older/flayed but...LOL...it ain't South Philly. Last I checked, there are still lots of beautiful old homes there! Streets seem to need a bit of patching up, and parking seems to be scarce in the residential areas, but it's absolutely charming.

I must admit, I miss NAH and his dreams of moving to Oil City. Wherever he is, I wish him well.

Cosmic, you did fabulous commentary on this thread. I feel as if I know you from reading your thinking about how you approach matters.

Before I found this thread, I also took a trip up to Oil City, just out of curiosity. Well, I also wanted to get out of DC for the weekend. Have always liked NW PA, the natural beauty and the rivers. I got there on Saturday early afternoon after the obligatory trip to Drake Well, and drove through Northside and Southside.

The natural beauty is everything I had thought. I was a little disoriented at the emptiness of the streets. There was scarcely a soul out on the sidewalks, and this was Fourth of July weekend! It was a little unsettling.

I'm going back, this time with company - I'm afraid that I think best when I've got somebody to share impressions with, and as this was an impulsive trip, I went alone.

Thank you, everybody who contributed to this thread!
