To ask people to become tolerate toward gay/transgender is ridiculous. It's not going to happen. I don't have a problem. That's me. Most people do. If people are honest, they do.
Even if there are people who can't and won't it doesn't mean that we simply shrug our shoulders and allow their intolerance to influence the rest of society. If we still gave a crap about what rascists thought, I doubt Obama would be President. Why then, should we lend credence to homophobia by accepting it?

That's silly. We generally do not stigmatize women who wear pants anymore (we used to though and I suppose many Christian Fundamentalist groups still do based on Deuteronomy 22:5 in the Bible).

Alexander the Great conquered the known world in a skirt. Think about it.

They let the men wear dresses at a young age and want to be a princess and say its ok. This country poses no threat in the near future. We are seen as weak to the rest of the world and as in accurate as the depiction is they will point to this story as proof.
Oh please. I see this kind of news from every part of the world!

Why should people and children always have to conform to what society deems is ok? Especially when it's about something as innocuous as clothing!

But it's better than it used to be, which is proof that people can change. Slowly, but it can happen.

Why is it ridiculous to expect people to be tolerant of people different than them? Quite frankly, I think it's defeatist and plain dumb NOT to expect that.

And Jesus wore a robe, not pants.

It's funny, how he was elected. The day after all the negative press and news. So many against it. So many on this board against. It still surprises me. Couldn't have been his work, because it hadn't started.

To label him as the princess boy is offensive. The 5 year old shouldn't wear dresses to school. I'm not saying talk him out of being "whatever" he says he is today. He shouldn't wear dresses to school period.

This is how strange society is. I accidently walked into a gay bar with my girlfriend. We were out of town. The lesbians thought was were a mixed couple. I was really shocked to know gays were racist. My people looked at me. Her people looked at her. We laughed about it, but ...

It's human nature for people to hate what they are afraid of.

Some people can change. Some people can say, they changed. When they are home talking to their kids, it's a different story.

Do you seriously think that the world will assume the United States is weak, because a 5 year old wears a dress, or if we finally give homosexuals truly equal rights? Please, they laugh at us because despite all of our "freedoms" there is still a segment of the population that finds such things offensive and news worthy.

Any country that would judge us weak over this isn't a country that we need to be concerned with anyway.

I seriously think that the U.S. is considered weak because so much attention is being paid to a 5 year old boy in a dress, and his parents (right) to allow him to do so. That said I wasn't jumping into don't ask don't tell, but since you bring it up other parts of the world are NOT as tolerant as we are of the GBLT lifestyle, and yes because of this some parts of the world view us as weak.

Like it or not we have ALWAYS had to conform to some type of dress code be it at school, work or at play (ever been invited to a party where everyone attending had to wear a particular color?). Clothing (innocuous as it is) has and will probably always be part of a societal "standard".
