venting: who here doesn't know that when placing an order on a CC or a Debit card that the store or company will place a authorization hold for either that amount or more (in the case of gas stations)? And who doesn't realize that if you make an adjustment to that order after authorization that it will create ANOTHER authorization hold? Not to forget that if you cancel order or return order before authorization is processed through that those $$$ holds will remain on your cards and affect your balance for approx 3-7 business days and in some cases up to 30 days.

In effect you can place orders/ cancel orders and end up with a zero dollar or in a negative credit balance due to the authorization holds.

It is NOT the fault of the Representative over charging you. It NOT the fault of the Company you are doing business with... so don't take your anger out on us. The problem lies in a simple fact. One you might not know all the above information and you might believe that if you cancel an order or change your mind about a product after it is in the system that you credit balance will properly reflect the modifications instantly. Sorry no.

Please Check with your banks. Find out how long THEY maintain authorization holds against your available balance so you can be a wonderful informed shopper who knows how to manage their debit and credit cards with ease.

thank you.
rant done.
we will continue on with your normal programing.

^^^^^ I have to honestly say that the only time that has happened to me was a hotel when used my credit/debit card and they told me up front. Never on my CC.
I am sorry someone took their frustrations out on you but I truly have not had that happen to me ever and I use my card for everything.

Aks, I'm surprised by the bigotry that I encounter right here in my own neighborhood. So sad.

I knew about the authorization charges. At our local gas stations, it's $1 and falls off in about three to seven days. It never gets co-mingled with actual charges. It sits in the "pending" bucket. When interest is calculated, the pending charges are not part of the formula. At hotels, it's the same principle, but a higher pending charge. I recently stayed at a hotel in MA and the charge pending was $5. It fell off a few days after I checked out.

If you don't watch the actual daily activity of your credit card, you might never know these things even exist.

Hello Venters! Or is it Ventors! This thread rocks. I don't know why I never came here before.

I don't have any vents right now. I normally vent fully and satisfactorily when something irks me.
<calmly wipes the spittle from chin from my parking lot incident>

Oh, and did I say I LOVE hearing your vents!? MORE!! MORE!!!

Okay guys I will not be vent for an extended period of time over the heat in my neck of the woods. I would like to offer my apologies now for the repetition. According to weather officials they say it is only 91, but I am sure they lying... I had to be out in it. The temp in the car was 102. I nearly fainted- now I am recovering from heat exhaustion. Now if I am in distress this early in the year- um on be whining allot. I f-N hate the heat!

Ummm ... Maybe Arizona isn't the best place for you ... Are you able to relocate to another area with milder weather?

With all the flaws of So California, I know that I could not be happy anywhere else as I cannot handle excessive cold or rainy weather ... I also cannot tolerate extreme heat but fortunately, my area rarely sees 95+ temps

Thumbs up The Power of Words!

I figure a lot of members don’t often go to the P&OC forum for several reasons of their own, I drop in there a few times a week just to look around. Often I leave wishing I’d stayed away. However you must check this link that I saw and enjoyed. It’s the best post I’ve seen in a long time! Worth the few minutes of your time today and it could change the whole way you look at things for a while.

Wow. That must have been a terrible thing to read. It is such a sad thing when we find out that people are not who we think they are.
