Why would you just run through a stop sign? There are people in my neighborhood that do that and I just dont get it. Kids running around, adults jogging, some walking their dogs, and people just run stop signs.

I had some lady run a stop sign in the Publix parking lot the other day and almost hit me. Then she had the nerve to yell at me because I gave her an evil look. Too bad she hadn't hit me, I would have sued her for everything she has and ever will have. Some people will only learn when it hurts their wallet.

Default Sidewalks are for pedestians - not vehicles

My neighbors often block the entire sidewalk with their cars; even when there is still room in their driveway. Drivers on the street cannot see around the vehicles that are blocking the sidewalks. And pedestrians, handicapped people, wheelchairs and strollers are then forced to enter the street in order to get around the cars; risking their lives due to the laziness of my neighbors. (Additional parking is provided for the neighborhood 1 block away). Unfortunately the Sheriff's office does not enforce the "no parking" laws at the present time. AND they probably won't until a tragedy occurs.
All we have to do is leave 3 feet of clear space for pedestrians to safely navigate the sidewalks, where they belong. Is that asking so much?

Even tho you may live on private property you have deeded certain rights to the public domaine such as the sidewalk and utility companies. Sidewalks are subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act - a federal law. The penalty can be quite significant. Parking across the sidewalk prohibits passage to people with disabilities (wheelchair or walkers, blind, etc.). Cities that fail to enforce the law may lose governemnt funding. It addition, it is discourteous.

Not just a mom pushing a stroller, but what about a person in a wheelchair?

Not sure why we decided to stop putting cars behind the home. Glad to see places like Avalon Park and Baldwin Park bringing that back. It didn't seem to be mutually exclusive with the idea of mass producing tract housing

We are staying with my in-laws until we find our place and as such it means that we can have up to 6 people (read 6 cars) at any one time. Their house has room for 4 cars and the other 2 typically park on the street.

So here's the story - yesterday my husband was off work and everyone else was at work so his car was parked behind my car in our driveway. Our neighbor came over about 11:30 and told us he got a ticket on his car. The ticket says it's for "blocking the sidewalk".

I guess the question really is - does that end of our driveway count as driveway or sidewalk? I can't find any definitions online so I'm hoping that maybe someone on here can shed some light. My thought is that the spirit of blocking the sidewalk would be if you were literally parked on the sidewalk but then, that's why I'm asking you guys.

The ticket was written by an Orange County Sherriff's officer. At least according to the header on the ticket.

Thanks
you cant block the sidewalk what about old people in wheel chairs or walkers trying to get around your car?

Not sure the original poster is going to read this three year old thread.

Sidewalk blockers are scum of the earth.

I'm dealing with the same issues, 6 cars.. my parents are kind enough (and have 4 extra bedrooms) to allow us all to stay with them until we are either done with school or can afford to live on own. Our community (HOA) decided to put up signs saying we can not park in front of our own home!! We have 4 females in the home that leave before the sun comes up, and home late often from work! Why should we have to park down the street? We get tickets if more than two cars in the driveway. UNBELIEVABLE the things people want to put up a fight about!

Note: There has been no issues with parking in front of the home since it was built in 97'. HOA placed "no parking between signs" signs at each end of our yard only last year. Our home is on a curb, but not an intersection of any kind. They said recently that it is difficult for emergency vehicles to get through.. ( I watched many firetrucks speed through with NO difficulty). How can I fight this?? Thanks!
