I live down the street from Kaley and I've been told it has gotten so bad because it pulls students from the juvenile detention center on Michigan. I do not know if that is true or not. I know 3 parents of Kaley kids, and all HATE it. One is moving this summer to get her son into another school.

My daughter is zoned for Dover Shores, which I am also not thrilled with. However, she would have gone to VPK next year at Kaley because DS does not offer VPK. Instead, I will be driving her to a private VPK up by Florida Hospital.

Kaley certainly shows that you cannot judge a school by its neighborhood. :/
Dang kaley sure has changed. Pulling children from detention center is bad.

Yeah. I was shocked when I heard Kaley got an F, because it is in an area (Delany Park) with some prime real estate.

Yeah but the OP said her child was deaf. Kaley specializes in Audiology.

So do Blankner and Boone. And another school, but I do not remember which one.

I see its been a few years since anyone posted on this thread, so I was wondering if the views were still the same. We are planning to relocate from NJ to either Osceola or Orange County. I am considering a job move that will be easy to access from either county. Orange County would be closer (job travels around the area, but home plate isn't far from the airport). Kissimmee has homes with some land (1 acre +) as we aren't looking to have our house right next to our neighbor. If I can touch both houses at the same time, its too close.

Anyway, we have 2 girls; 1 going into 4th and one going into 6th. The 6th grader complains she is bored and doesn't have too much trouble getting all A's. The 4th grader struggles more and is diagnosed with autism. She struggles with socialization and seems to be the target of bullying, and she struggles with understanding the skills being taught. She is in main streamed classrooms with a regular teacher and a second special ed teacher in the room that has a few kids that need help.

Suggestions for schools, and do we have to be assigned to that school (meaning is my location for a house limited) or is there open choice?

Thanks for all the help.

Blanker is one of the jewels of OCPS.
Seek out that school zone.

Thank you. They do get great reviews, unfortunately its assigned area is a bit small. Not sure if I'll be able to find a home with much land there. We have a camper and 2 honey bee hives. Land will give us a place to park the camper and an ability to keep the hives. I don't really want to be too far east either as some of my work will be west of I-4 (if I am referring to somewhere like Four Corners, would that be considered west or north of I-4 since it goes east / west but not really around there?). Orange County is pretty big, and when you throw in traffic, travel times add up.

If you need help narrowing down specific schools, etc., feel free to message me. I've got a 4.5 yr old and have looked at nearly all of them.

Also, if you want some activity ideas for free or cheap, let me know.
@FloridaNative, do you have an email address I can write directly to you with some questions I have about Floridas school districts opinions?

Thanks,

Cindy

Orange and with my understanding of the new law Osceola could get worse. Gov. Scott signed a law that a kid can transfer to any school as long as there is room. I could see a lot of Orange transfers out to Seminole and Osceola/Lake into Orange.
