Can anyone tell me something about the high schools in Orange County. We are moving there next year and sending our child to high school - not sure which one yet and was hoping to get a little information.

Thank you!

They are over populated. Only Winter Park High School is considered an "A" school in Orlando. I believe Dr. Phillips is a "B". The High School near Avalon that opened up recently has 4,300 students and was built for 1,800.

Winter Park and Dr Phillips are "northern" style. They are already built up which limits the growth. There are a lot of high schools being built right now so if you choose somewhere else it is possible they may need to switch schools half way through.

Another option is to use the private schools in the area.....2 come to mind: Lake Highland Prep & Trinity Prep. Both have strong academics and Lake Highland has an excellent sports program.

Alternative Education Center-Yop - Orlando - 431

The lowest rank is 436 in the state.

There you go the best and worst of the area. if you wondered the cocoa melbourne / merritt island area ranked very high, many in the top 40.
This is based off the 2007 FCAT scores. ( for what that is worth)

Partin Elementary School - in Oviedo at 23m is the highest Elementary rating in the area.

Rock Lake Middle School - Longwood at 27 is the highest rated Middle school in the area.

Brevard county in Elementary and high are apparently on the ball with many in the top 20.
Oviedo ranks at the top in this area... the votes are in. :-)

Hope that helps all those inquiring minds.

That definitely isn't "diversity". It's over 80% black.

Default Sensitivity

Diversity is what The Orange County school board strives for, education comes after the budget. No matter how you phrase it.

Winter Park High School is probably the best high school in Orange County, and I have heard very good things about it. Seminole County has more good high schools, you may want to consider it...
