Which area of OK gets the most severe summer storms~is it Tulsa or OKC?

AND the biggie~which one is worse in the wintertime?

I have looked at comparison maps and it appears that OKC gets under 3 inches of snow and Tulsa gets around 7 inches of snow. But those same maps show that OKC has morning lows that are about 4 degrees lower then Tulsa's. Any observations from those of you who actually live in that weather?

I've followed Tulsa's weather for about three years. I remember seeing ice storms there. Is it the same in OKC? Does either area actually get as much snow as the stats show?

OkC is a tad cooler than Tulsa (700 ft. higher elevation), but I believe that Tulsa's average snowfall (while still minimal) is a few inches more than OkC because Tulsa is a wetter climate.

I think Tulsa's "average" is around 9-12 inches a year, which means any given year you could get close to none and up to a foot or two. Regardless, it's never around for more than a week in either city once it snows; it usually melts within a few days. Spots will stay around for weeks sometimes in the shady areas but nothing (and I mean NOTHING) like what you are accustomed to in the great white north Jammie.

As for more severe summer storms, I'd say it's a toss-up with a slight edge going to OkC. My opinion only; I haven't researched the stats to back that up.

We usually have 1 or 2 ice storms per year in Tulsa. It is very unusual for the ice to stay around for more than 2 days. December was a whole new experience with ice. School was cancelled for a week, no electricity for 10 days. So many trees were destroyed. We lost 3 oaks that were 30 years old. There went the shade for a few years. Fortunately, we had recently put an impact resistant roof on the house and when the limbs fell from the top of the trees, they landed flat on their sides so no damage. It was frightening hearing them land as we sat inside in the dark.

In all actuality, ice storms are not a regularity by any means in Oklahoma. We've had some severe ones in the last 24 months to make up for the lack of them before that, though.

OKC gets on average about 36 inches of rain a year; Tulsa gets around 40. March through June are typically the wettest months for both cities.

I don't know if you heard it but in the middle of the night there was this one loud "Crack!" in the sky that sent me flying off my bed still asleep I'm not usually like that Most of the time, the sound of lightning sings me to sleep
Once I woke up enough to realize it was lightning I went right back to sleep

LR, too bad you didn't get a shot the sky last night around 7-8. The ground looked like we were under a tarp. Half of the sky was faded with mixed dark and light gray, gray blue and pink clouds and the other half was a blue sky.
