What this building will do is give Oklahoma City some well deserved publicity. The Devon Center will be the 20th tallest building in the United States and the 54th tallest in the world (as of now). Not bad for a city most of the country feels are nothing but backwoods undeducated hicks.

I felt the same way at first, but you have to remember that the empire state building dwarfed everthing in the NYC skyline when it was built. Not that Im comparing NYC to Okie city(total joke). But I will compare it to the BOA tower in charlotte, because it definitely dominates their skyline.

This will probably be a catalyst for other tall hotels etc. to develop. But it will dominate the skyline for yrs. and yrs. I think that is what devon wants.

It also blends in perfectly, giving a nod to the colcord and the first national. Its a huge statement to say the least.

Money will also be created from this that will go towards helping other parts of the CBD.

Considering the size and the economy, it would seem that the project could possibly be sized down. But Devon needs the space and the natural gas boom is not going away. Also Devon is worth billions and has 5 billion saved back for a project of this size. I also thought it was pretty powerful when Nichols said he wouldnt sell his company over his dead body! Anyway thats my 2 cents...here are some more pics..

Forbes article. Devon plans 925-foot skyscraper in Oklahoma City - Forbes.com (broken link)

general layout...Notice the skin of water surrounding the tower.

I just can't believe how gorgeous it is. I was not expecting something like this.

It'll look a little out of place at first but will quickly begin to blend in with the rest of the skyline. I think next we need something around 600-750 feet to help blend it in a little better. I see either a hotel or residential tower going up next in OKC.

I totally agree. It is an incredible design and for good reason. The architectual firm has one of the best resumes in the world. To put it into perspective they designed the twin towers in malaysia, that are currently bieng built. This center, designed for an urban lifestyle, is considered a signature piece of art for the firm.

I have been told by many that more developments are to follow, like some tall hotels etc. It will be a major cataylist for growth.

OKC is truly in a period of renaissance not seen since the 1930s "race to the top". The First National Tower and the Ramsey Tower were some of the tallest most impressive scrapers in the west for some time.

The design is top notch. I cant wait until its built. It is planned which is way different from a proposal.

Thanks for the input, I havent heard any neg comments about it on the skyscraper forum, where it really counts. Most cant believe it is even being built in the state of Oklahoma!

Ya, it seems a lot of people were surprised. I was too! I would have expected it to be built somewhere else, but I'm glad to see skyscrapers [such as this one] going up in other places around the country.

Considering the height, many thought it was a prank. OKs first supertall! Very strange, but the NBA coming to town in these woods was also. I will try to provide pics when construction starts.
