Please explain more.

I believe the permits only last for 6 months?

So if you are getting hired and tell them you only have the permit, they'll still put you into the 1 month class?

From my understanding, if you do not have a CDL, you will have to skip the class until you have the license, whether its with the department or on your own.

You NEED a PERMIT by orientation in order to be eligible for the DSNY CDL class. This however could delay being hired if you don't get into and complete the CDL class before the hiring class is 100% full. You will also have to have a full week free to take the DSNY class as opposed to doing classes on your own time when you have time available. You could also possibly save money doing it on your own.

This is why we constantly tell people to not just stop with the PERMIT, but go out and get the full license on your own, so it's one less thing to worry about.

To get hired you must have the CDL License.

Is the DSNY class more convenient? Yes probably and they do a hell of a job getting you ready for it including bringing you to the testing site at the end of the week and providing the Truck to take the test in however again it's better to have everything done already before orientation.

Your permit is good for 6 months & then you can renew it for another 6 months. So your permit is good for up to one year before it expires.. After that one year, you will have to take all the exams again to receive another permit

If this were true when would people start getting called for pre-orientation and Medicals?
