Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me if you can transfer your E-Z Pass tag to a car rental or if a car rental agency such as Enterprise offers E-Z Pass for their vehicles?

Thanks,
Gary

That was my question. I dont actually own E-Pass yet, but I intend to get it. I didnt know if you can transfer it to a car rental. We are going on vacation in the next couple of weeks and will be renting a car. Thanks.

Yes, you can get it and register it to one of your cars and then when you rent a car you take it with you. BEWARE, Enterprise made me sign something saying I couldn't use my EZ-PASS but I had it in the car with me when I went through a toll to pay cash and the toll booth attendant asked me if I had one in the car (it had registered on something in the toll booth). I told him I did but I was told I couldn't use it by the rental agency. He told me to go and the payment registered on the EZ-Pass. So then I called EZ-PASS to verify and they told me I could use it with a rental car.

So here's what happened during the month I had the rental car. On two occasions I forgot the EZ PASS. They took a picture of the license plate which they tracked to the rental company who gave them my DL# since I was driving the car on those dates. I filled out a form and sent it back explaining what happened. EZ-Pass charged the toll to my account and Enterprise never did a thing about it.

I've given our extra E-Z Pass to visiting friends and family, and it has always worked. I can't imagine why a rental would be any different.

Yeah, I've used my EZ pass in company vehicles before and didn't even call EZ Pass to tell them about the different vehicle. I just got one of those suction devices and attached the pass temporarily.

I think it would be a bad idea to register a rental in your EZ pass acount. If multiple people use the rental after you and there's a problem, knowing how snafus happen, they could come after you.

I have two of them and we swap them from car to car all the time. Used them in several rentals and never a problem. As long as it registers in the EZ Pass lane, you're good. if, by some chance, it doesn't register and they snap your plates, all you have to do is call EZ Pass and give them the info and they will debit your account for it.

PS-
If you don't have one yet, get one from Maryland and avoid the monthly surcharge that NJ charges... just for the privilege of having one..

i agree... it's a hassle to register the plates, if something happens to the next rental customer it comes back to you. just use your e-z pass in the rental...and NY now charges a fee just like NJ so go with any state that doesn't charge yet.

Yes you can use your ezpass in a rental. I do it all the time.

DO NOT register the plates to your account. As someone else mentioned you can/will get tickets from others blowing through the tolls. The whole purpose of registering the plates is just so that if your tag doesnt register it can still betraced back to you.
