As long as it's active it can be used for any 2 axle car.

OK, I called the ez pass people on Friday, and I asked the same question. The woman who answered told me that I had to call NJ EZ when I rent the car and give them the license plate #. Or EZ Pass lane will take a picture of the license plate and send the car rental company a fine.

I figured if the account is active when I go through the toll it would just immediately deduct the toll off the account. Since I'm only renting the car for 3 days, It doesn't make sense to give them the plate # from the rental company. Who knows how long it would take them to remove that plate from my account..So whoever rents the car after me would have free rides on the toll roads.. Does this make any sense to anyone???

No it doesn't. As long as the ezpass account is up to date and valid, doesn't matter what car it's in.

My son needed to use my wife's EZpass for a few weeks until he received his new one. No problem or fines.

Was his license plate # added to your account?

Actually no. We recently bought him a newer car since his old one was totalled and the old ezpass was destroyed in the accident The new car had a temp plate on the rear glass. So in reality, there was no plate on the car when going through ezpass.

I have done it many of times, in a few different vehicles. You'll be just fine. Happy toll paying.

I agree with the rest. We have 3 cars and 2 EZpasses. I swap one out between my 2 cars all the time - and the EZpass people actually only have 1 valid license plate out of the 3 cars! We sold one car, bought 2 and never bothered to tell them. It's no biggie, trust me. We're going on 4 years with one car not being registered and 2 with the other.
