When I drove to Florida in that era, I can recall being on I-95 for some fairly short stretches in Georgia, and having to drive on much slower, much older, and much narrower highways for other stretches. It wasn't until some years later than I-95 was completed--with no gaps--all the way from NJ to Florida.

I remember we were on some country-ish roads in Georgia and got the best peaches and plums I've ever had from a farm stand. Gaps in I-95 are probably the reason we were on those roads.

I-80 wasn't finished when I was a kid, either. You had to go up through Sussex County to get to the Poconos. I still know how to take that route.

It stopped half way into North Carolina and resumed at the Savannah River bride at the GA border straight down to Daytona. Those heading to the west coast would get off 95 and head inland at GA.

Rt, 80 was still uncompleted in the early 70's . My sister bought a home in Mount Arlington on the lake and had to commute in Rt. 46. But back then the traffic wasn't that bad.

Isn't that the truth. Now people are commuting from the Poconos! I've got two of them in my office (we're in Jersey City now, but moved out of the city last year.)

On weekends before I-80 was finished I remember once you got to the single lane part of US 46 the traffic would stretch all the way to PA.

I got my first speeding ticket last week. My husband took the wrong train after his business dinner in NYC so he called me to pick him up at midnight as there is no more train available to go home. After I picked him up, I was kind of rush home. I drove 67mph at 50mph zone (RT10) and got caught with a ticket and 4 points. The court date is set for 4pm at the end of this month. I plan to go to see if I can at least remove/reduce the points. I have clean record since I have driver license and it's my very first moving violation ticket. My husband participate a legal plan from his company and he has inquired the case assistance from the plan. They supplied me a list of 5 network lawyers with discounted price that I can contact. Do I need a lawyer to go with me for this matter? I read from other thread stating it will speed up the wait time in cout if you have lawyer to go with you. Is it true?

This has been discussed many time before around here. They always offer to knock the ticket down to either the lower speed level or to what is called "unsafe driving" which is zero points. They will do this without having any lawyer, so having a lawyer is up to you. It's a big cash register for the state and town since the unsafe driving runs about $485 by the time you pay all the fees, etc.

Other than that its pot luck.

Your decision is to take 2 points or 0 points, and I believe you can knock 2 points off by taking a defensive driving course which can be done online.

Thanks. I am aware of "unsafe driving" deal with $485 fine as husband had it one time when he got improper passing ticket few years ago. He had lawyer go with him at that time and knocked down to 0 point. If they offer 2 points reducing, do I pay less or the same $485? I guess I probably can do it myself without a lawyer. Does wait time normally long in the court? My time is set for 4pm and court closes at 4:30pm according to the web page.

The 2 points with a lowered speed ticket would be a lot cheaper, I'm just guessing but you can look that up online, maybe $125, just a guess. The wait time all depends on the local court, how many "victims" they have to process that night, etc.
I would call ahead at least 3 days before as they state on the ticket and advise them you want to plead not guilty since they may tell you to come back a different day for that. Some reschedule you to a different day, some tell you to come in on the date written on the ticket. Otherwise you may waste more time and have to come in twice.
If a lawyer could get it knocked down to a real zero pointer other than the unsafe driving, that would steer me to getting one, but those deals are rare.

I got an awesome deal on my speeding ticket, here's what I did: I called the court and pled not guilty. I went to court - the Prosecutor offered UNSAFE DRIVING. I sent him a discovery request the following week. Next court date he offered 39:3-44 Vehicle in Unsafe Condition which is $50 fine, $33 court costs, and NO POINTS!

There is plenty of information out there on fighting and beating speeding tickets, just make sure you get info about NEW JERSEY. Other States have different laws and different court procedures.
