commissioner blundo held a press conference this weekend, declaring his innocence. i'm not sure how he can wiggle his way out of this one - it is on the record (multiple bocc meetings). i would imagine the county has ways of tracking exactly how much CARES funding he has applied for & received.

https://pvtimes.com/news/nye-county-...gations-92899/

this was more of a "i'm running for re-election in 2024" than anything else.

the circle k located at the corner of basin & blagg is making progress. they were hoping to be open in time for xmas, that didn't happen. my guess at an opening date? beginning of february

these were taken middle of december, when hvac was being installed. as of today not much has changed. they have some cement curbs poured & it appears they are getting read to stucco the outside of the building, but that's about it. they haven't completely buried the tanks yet, the ground isn't level & isn't ready for pavement.

we took a visitor out to rhyolite/beatty recently. it's been a while since we've been to rhyolite - more fences are up to preserve the buildings than i remember. of course, that didn't keep the riff-raff out

https://www.flickr.com/photos/104366...in/dateposted/

this was a group of 7, with at least 2 adults. that's one of the adults, squatting thru the fence while setting an example for the kids, smh

the bottle house has a new shiny fence around it too. last time i was there, you could walk on the porch

the pvtimes recently had a story about the bottle house
https://pvtimes.com/news/bottle-hous...century-92297/

next to the bottle house was a downed joshua tree. i think these things are UGLY. i've heard cowboys used to use them as torches while sitting around the campfire. this is the 1st time i've been able to see the bark up close & personal - fascinating layers & designs. found some large live specimens over by the train depot. the root/base kinda looks like the trolls foot from harry potter

before we left beatty, our friend wanted a picture of wild donkeys. i knew one location they liked to hang out, so we went there. remember the 2 story tiny home vacation things i had in a previous post? near that location is an empty lot. next to the empty lot is a garage/storage shed. the owner of the garage/storage shed likes to put water/food out for the donkeys. so we stopped there. as we pulled into the empty lot, our friend is preparing to get out of the car. mistake. the donkeys spotted us & were headed in our direction before our friend could get the door open.

instead he decided he would take pictures from a rolled down window. mistake. ROLL 'EM UP! ROLL 'EM UP!

our friend giggled about this adventure for hours.

my gutters have been earning their keep this week!!

on monday january 25th, about 4pm, it started snowing in my yard. the last time it snowed in my yard was xmas day 2015 & at that point, it was just a very light dusting. this time it didn't appear to be sticking but over night....it stuck! on tuesday morning we woke to:

we measured 3" of snow on the front lawn about 10am. i have an ex-co-worker who lives on the north side of town who measured 8" on his trash can, not sure what time he took his reading. the snow was gone off the ground by sunset on the 26th, but my roof took a good 2 days to shed the white stuff.

on friday january 29th, about 3:30am, it started raining. it rained off & on for a good 3 hours.

there is STILL snow on the surrounding mountains. i have never seen snow last this on on them. mt charleston (the last picture) will have snow during the winter, but the rest of them? no way. usually lasts for 24 hrs & then is gone. these hills are north to northeast of pahrump & the pictures were taken january 30th.

Neat Pictures Cre8lite. About 10 years ago we had a snow in late Nov or early Dec. Moved our guard toad under the orange tree and took a picture of the snowed orange tree with falling snow and the guard toad. Used it that year for our Xmas card.

I have only seen one honest snowfall in Las Vegas and it was south side only. We got none in the NW but in the middle of south Henderson there was enough snow to make snow men and at least one four foot high fort. The snow was gone two days later but the local kids had a ball for the one good snow day.

The interesting thing about the recent snow here was that we got snowballed by our palm trees. Got a set of six across the yard from my office window. Suddenly began to see 3 inch or so snowballs falling into the yard. Look up and discovered the snow was slipping down the palm leaves into a pile at the edge and would then fall off the edge as a snowball.

i always find the combination of snow on palm trees such a fascinating thing to take photos of. no palm trees in my yard but there are plenty in town. this snow storm broke 4 or 5 branches on my rosemary bush with just the weight of the snow. the photo i posted with the sun in the background was my pomegranate tree/shrub & the one with the neighbors house in the background was my climbing rose bush from tombstone, az

i took a photo a few years back of a mudpuddle in my front yard that i showed to my buddy in reno, who does photography for a living. she was shocked that i was the one who took it - said it looked professional! i was quite pleased with myself

from 2019, the swirls caught my attention. maybe someday i'll make it into an xmas card:

Fantastic pictures cre8lite. We got a ton of snow over my way too...west slope of the Sierras. Sure needed it. Very dry year here until a week ago. Keep up the good work. Love your thread.

gotta few things to get caught up on - let's start with our lovely commissioner who was arrested on thanksgiving.

the atty gen'l office in vegas decided to NOT go ahead with the case. WHA? i don't understand. this isn't something that was interpretted incorrectly, or a he-said-she-said type of deal. it is recorded. for all to see & hear. how could you decide naaaaah, we'll pass on this one.

comment from the county manager:
“As a business owner, Commissioner Blundo had every right to participate in the CARES program and apply for funding. As a commissioner, he had every right to set policy and monetary thresholds for CARES program recipients. The problem is that he did both, which was illegal and unethical.”

we now have a commissioner who thinks he can get away with whatever he wants. now he has ammo to target the county manager, who was simply doing his job by reporting the unethical & illegal behavior of a commissioner who has a history of ethical issues. if the commissioner is vindictive (he is), all he needs to do is find 2 other commissioners & the 3 of them can fire the county manager.

my guess? the AG's office took one look at the case & said, nope - nye county can take care of their own mess! they clearly didn't put 2+2 together that the commissioner & the local DA are friends.

the public was quite vocal after blundo was arrested. hopefully they remember this when election time rolls around for blundo (2022)

i have always enjoyed watching home improvement shows - not the foo-foo ones where they are all about the finishes. i like the ones that educate the viewers on what was done wrong, why it was wrong, what needs to be done to fix it & introducing us to the products they are using (mike homes is my favorite)

i've got a buddy moving to town from northern california. <i guess the stay at home quarantine was the last straw for her>
she has been to vegas multiple times in the last couple of years, but only made it out to pahrump last october. she toodled around town & decided to buy.

she purchased in artesia, the "antoinette" model:
https://www.lennar.com/new-homes/nev...ahrump/artesia

at the begining of january, i went down to check out the progress on her house as she is still in CA. at that point the walls were up but that was it. myself & DH went down on the holiday weekend. when we arrived, we got out of the vehicle & went to walk thru her house. there was a contractor working on the house next door & he yelled at us that we couldn't go in the house. ok, how about we stay outside? he didn't seem to have a problem with that. i have issues with it, but i was trying to be a good girl.

we wandered the outside, noticed a few oddities, took some pictures. things like where the concrete footing meets the 2x4, the top part of the concrete is wider than the bottom part. or the elevated platform where the hot water heater goes? the blocking underneath...1 of them is "floating" in mid air. things that can be fixed, but need to be fixed now before the roof goes on or drywall goes up.

i asked my friend if she was going to come down for a 1/2 way point inspection? she said she wasn't sure, as they haven't told her anything. i shared my pictures with her. she was shocked.

myself & DH go back, this time on a sunday, in mid january. thinking we will miss any contractors. nope. there is plywood on the roof & the outside is getting ready for stucco. we get outta the car, wander down the side of the house & there is the same bulldog from the 1st trip. telling us once again that we can go look at a model house (i don't want to see a model house, i want to see THIS house). i tried telling him that my friend has purchased this house, he wasn't having it. we needed to be escorted & that i needed to go back to the sales office. i tried telling him that we wouldn't go IN the house, we'd stay on the outside. nope. we weren't allowed on property at all.

ok, now i'm pissed. i'm clearly not there to steal something (i'm in bunny slippers & sweats for gawd sake), i tried to meet you in the middle & you're being an a$$. i didn't want to cause a scene cuz next thing you know i'd be 86'd off the property completely & then wouldn't be able to visit my friend when she actually moves in.

we leave the property. i tell my friend. come to find out, even SHE isn't allowed to view her own home without an escort. WTF? i'm sorry, you paid how much for this house & you can't view it while it's being built? that's just wrong on soooo many levels. also, she's not allowed to add anything to the house while it's being built - no additional plugs; no moving a wall; nothing.

one of the many selling features when i purchased my home? the sales agent encouraged us to walk thru ANY of their construction sites. they were proud of their construction. we got a 1/2 way point tour of the house & i did make changes (slight) to the floorplan. this is how it should be. i mean, c'mon....this is $200k+ we are spending. why shouldn't we have say in how it is built or where the dang electrical plugs go???

just a quick update on circle k - we have paint on the outside (kinda looks like costco colors to me) & shade covers for the gas pumps. just need to get the pavement down, landscape, signage & pumps.

they are hoping to be open mid february, but i'd say more like beginning/mid march by the time they get everything in & pass inspection. i'm hoping it will be well lit but not glaring neon so the housing development across the street can sleep at night.
