The Flight of the Phoenix (1965)

terrific film; very much character-driven and very unrelenting.

Commanding performances from Stewart, Attenborough & Kruger; with able support.

I did watch the remake a few years ago -

The Damned (2013)
Quote:
After a family is involved in an accident, they take refuge in a secluded inn where they free a girl locked in a basement without knowing she's an ancient evil spirit.
For years I told everyone I was a tea cup but nobody believed me. I realized that just because I called myself something, it didn't make it so. This movie can call itself a horror movie all day long, but without any horror, it isn't one.

Following up on A Fistful of Dollars, I watched For a Few Dollars More.

It's everything the first is, and more - the plot is executed well, the entertaining and capable Lee Van Cleef joins the cast, and Gian Maria Volonte's Indio is a more interesting character than his Ramon in the first film.

The motif of the tune-playing stopwatch is a nice touch. And the opening sequence (see below) is truly spectacular. A static, wide vista of a man on a horse. An unseen gun cocking. A gunshot, and the rider falls dead. Then, after the credits, this across the screen.

WHERE LIFE HAD NO VALUE, DEATH, SOMETIMES, HAD ITS PRICE
THAT IS WHY THE BOUNTY KILLERS APPEARED

It may only be Sergio Leone's third-best western, but it's still one of the greatest westerns ever made!
