One of the most beautiful, visually, films I've ever seen has to be Farewell, My Concubine, the story of young boys raised to perform for the Emperor of China. Each scene could have been stilled, and been a work of art.

One of the sweetest stories in a foreign film is that told in The Red Violin. Sometimes, you can catch this on TV.

Another that comes to mind, and is recent, is Pan's Labyrinth -- almost like viewing the magical fantasy of Gabriel Garcia Marquez work.

I'll have to think about the titles of others I've seen. I love foreign films, but often have to see them with a friend, as my husband doesn't much care for them, especially if there are subtitles.

I loved Pan's Labyrinth. I can't believe I left that out. I have heard good things about Farewell...I will try to rent it soon. I love good chinese movies too. The good thing about knowing many languages I guess, is that I don't have to read the subtitles

I don't know chinese though
