This article seems to speak best on the Chinese response to Black Panther. It’s not really politics per se, but a different cultural view on Race that has been influenced by Hollywood.
Chinese racism did not begin with Hollywood movies. And smart moviegoers recognize racism in movies when they want to. For instance, South Koreans do recognize and acknowledge that they have gotten erroneously negative images of blacks from movies. But then, Koreans have been exposed to Chinese racism.
That Chinese go to movies written or directed by blacks is irrelevant--they don't see writers and directors on the screen.
And there are just too many other examples of Chinese racism beyond movies. No, it's not a matter of mere ignorance. We black people (particularly in the military) have had a lot of experience with people of other nations who haven't seen us before...and that's an entirely different reaction.

I can’t speak from the perspective of black people or Chinese people, but I thought it was interesting that the article mentioned that most times Hollywood shows blacks in media/movie rolls, they tend to be more stereotypes. Also, I thought it was interesting that it mentioned that some of the critiques were about the dark colors used in the movie, and not necessarily black people. Again, I’m not black and haven’t lived overseas like you, so you would have better perspective. I just thought that this article went a little deeper than others I’ve seen.

They're prevaricating to the microphone. Chinese can see in the dark just as well as everyone else.
BP has been in theaters for a bit now, I would expect with most movies at this point, the next blockbuster in line would be top at the box office this late in the game and the earnings PR aren't even enough to make it a viable competitor overall viewer or $$, so I'm not sure what the point is of the announcement. People need to find a new target to hate on.
