I was in college nearby one of the locations that Dirty Dancing was filmed. I remember all the buzz in my dorm about making the drive to go see it being filmed, maybe we could be extras! Or such was the talk.
At any rate, I had no idea who Patrick Swayze was at the time. Had I known who he was I probably would have gone with everyone to see if I could meet him.
When the movie came out, it was an instant hit with me. Patrick was so good looking and I was close to Baby's age so I related to her character. I'm 55 now so I guess that could qualify me as an "old bag" to some folks but I certainly wasn't an "old bag" when I first enjoyed the movie.
It's a cute movie and I would say that it is one of my favorites.
The whole thing was baby boomer propaganda appealing to all the old bags. That whole doo wop nonsense and rich long island folk on vacation. Overrated garbage!
First off, doo wop as a musical genre is not nonsense. It's a hell of a lot better than the majority of"black" music being made today
Second, there was no doo wop music even used in that movie.
It's been a long time since I've seen it, so I can't remember, but how old are the characters supposed to be? I was always a bit weirded out because I assumed Baby was supposed to be in high school and Johnny obviously well older than that...

I always wondered why he never did anything else...
