It has the potential, however the movie will have to surpass ticket sales for Avatar, Gone with Wind, Titanic, etc.
The previews look good, and it features most of the cast from the first Star Wars release.
US Domestic and International ticket sales - possibly could make it #1.
The "top-selling" appellation has little to do with reality and everything to do with marketing and hype. I've seen tricks like including Thursday special late shows into weekend grosses to build figures, G*d awful back to back scheduling leaving no time for cleaning, ticket price hikes, and all sorts of other tricks.
Consider the effects of inflation alone - after the $10/seat charity fundraiser at the Atlanta premier of GWTW, the evening ticket price was $1.
Hollywood is legendary in its ability to make figures lie to its advantage.
Disney is hampering itself a bit with Draconian theater requirements for this movie, such as:
1. Must be shown on the largest screen of a multiplex.
2. Must be shown a minimum of four weeks.
3. Disney gets 65% of ticket sales.
That's going to make a lot of smaller theaters think twice.
That has been common for years. Sometimes the play-outs are even more outrageous, like eight weeks. The studios and distribs know that theatres have to survive to be able to play the next product. If a picture bombs, the terms are re-negotiated after the fact. Unlike real-estate, where a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it is printed on, in exhibition a written standard contract isn't worth the paper it is printed on.
When I was young, Star Wars was kind of nerdy but in a cool culturally prominent way. Now... its a geek fest and I feel sorry for this generation that wants to cling to it to help give themselves an identity and feel relevant. But they have no idea just how lame and creatively vacant the whole franchise has become. Its a huge soulless production of warmed over stale ideas and plots with extremely insipid actors trying to portray would be iconic characters. And the only way they can get them out from under the shadow of the original movies is to kill off the original actors or despoil them in unforgivable ways.
Define what you mean by "top-selling." Number of tickets sold? Or dollar amount? Modern movies make a lot more money than movies did 30 years ago, but tickets also cost four times as much, so it's very misleading.
STAR WARS will do well. Will it be the most successful movie of all time? No, I don't think so.

Considering how awful TFA was/is, I highly doubt it'll become the all-time top selling movie.

Dollar amount, when adjusted for inflation. Box office revenue(not including DVD/Blu-Ray sales).
The first Star Wars(1977) release is currently 3rd top selling, only behind Avatar(2nd), and Gone with the Wind(1st).
