I liked it when it came out (1978). I was just 18 years old. Donald Pleasance had a great performance in that film, too, as I remember. Certainly better than the sequels. I agree it was not the greatest of all time.

Amazing how two people can see the same movie and have opposite conclusions on something like that. Could it be both characters did it? I'll have to see "Gravity" on DVD. I'll provide you both with the tie breaking decision. LOL!

Unforgiven

Seemed like just another western.

I disagree. To me, every good movie is better than its book version.

Why?
Because, I don't have to read and typically, I am done in 2 hours!

Unforgiven definitely got far more hype than it deserved. At least slightly over-rated.

I wont argue that point. personally, I love the movie Unforgiven, but I didn't love it the first time I saw it (I was 18 at the time, and I saw it in the theatre.)

I will say that Unforgiven, like a lot of movies, get better and better upon multiple viewings.

so when you say (I HATE or I don't get this or that overrated, or over-hyped movie, just keep in mind that sometimes it takes two or three viewings to get what is good about a film. I find this to be the case more often with slower moving films, such as:
UNFORGIVEN
UNBREAKABLE
THERE WILL BE BLOOD
FIRE IN THE SKY

and then again, sometimes it only takes one viewing to KNOW that they're over-hyped and are shyte:
THE DARK KNIGHT
THE HANGOVER

Borat
Pulp Fiction
The Godfather movies (don't hate me, I know they are well made and well acted, but I find them tediously boring. If I have to watch mobsters, I prefer The Sopranos).

a lot of people on this thread agree with you 100%.

I'm not so sure that the acting is even all that good by today's standards.

Back to the Future
Forest Gump
The Goonies
Gremlins
Disney/Pixar (computer-animated films)
"Superhero" films

That's just the tip of the iceberg for now.
