Please, nothing by Bergman here. We don't want to talk about Citizen Kane or Gone With the Wind. Akira Kurosawa is not welcome.
Instead, lets talk about guilty pleasures. What are the most bizarre, inept, incompetent, head scratching, perhaps even morally reprehensible films that none-the-less were unique and compelling enough that secretly, though you will admit it to no one face to face, you secretly loved?
One of my all-time faves. It’s truly a baffling miracle of the movie. Dialogue is horrible. Acting is atrocious. The story’s portrayal of Native American culture and history is completely wrong. The genuine hippy-dippy earnestness is so over the top that your eyes never really stop rolling. Other than Howard Hesseman and some of the music, there really isn’t a single redeeming thing about this movie. But I absolutely love every minute of it, from beginning to end.
Gymkata ( Mullets, Gymnastics, Karate, ninjas and hilarious villains in ONE FILM! ) Plan 9 from outer space Gamera One armed boxer Zombie strippers Toxic avenger (Classic!) Xtro The Incredible Melting man Sasquatch mountain
OK. It's really stupid, but I laughed so hard.
Mars Attacks.
Especially when Jack Nicholson made his "Why can't we
just get along?" comment.
And the Nelson Eddy music on the van that killed the aliens.
That was probably the best black comedy movie I ever saw.
Barbarella - Jane Fonda in fabulous costumes....... what's not to love!
Myra Breckinridge - a disaster. Mae West in her dotage, saying to a guy, "how tall are you cowboy?" "6' 7" ma'am....." Mae - "mmmmmmm, lets forget about the 6 feet, and talk about the 7 inches....." Plus my girl Raquel Welch was never more beautiful as she strode majestically through this awful film.
I totally agree with GymKata. First time I saw it as a young teen, I loved it as a serious action/martial arts flick, later on, it was so bad that it was fun to watch!
Shadow Fury Lame, wooden acting, check! Horrible dialogs, check! Crazy martial arts fight scenes, check! Wicked cast (Taylor Lautner as a clone kid assassin and Bas Rutten as the adult version, with Pat Morita as a crazy scientist), check!
