What are some good sci-fi movies? My tastes run more towards understated movies that make you think. Not a fan of "sci-fi" which are really more action-adventure movies.
My all-time favorite sci-fi movie: Gattaca
Others I like: Serenity, The Matrix (the first one), City of Lost Children, Equilibrium, Contact, Dark City, Pitch Black, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
Movies I dislike: Matrix II and III, Star Wars, I, Robot, War of the Worlds, Fantastic Four, etc.
So any suggestions based on my likes and dislikes?
How could I have forgotten Blade Runner as one of my likes!? Saw 2001 about 15 years ago -- for some reason it just didn't get to me -- will have to watch it again.
My goodness when i first saw Gattaca i thought what a boring movie, to slow. but then i could not stop thinking about it. now i love that movie!
just saw the show firefly and then the move Serenity for the first time (though the power of netflix) and am now a bonivid browncoat how could a show that good get canceled.
and of course the classics like bladerunner, goes without saying.
more recent one's i like that made me think where, i,robot and Minority Report
ones i did not like, Matrix 2-3 war of the worlds and could not get into A.I
War of the Worlds the 1953 and 2005 versions are both good-I prefer the 1953 version. It Came from Beneath the Sea (1953)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) The Time Machine (1960) '2001' Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964) On the Beach (1959-Post apocalyptic) the 2000 version is good also. The Day of the Triffids (1963) Terminator 1984
