Halloween approaches.

What are your favorite scary movies? Rather than bloody slasher movies, I prefer suspense and spookiness. (Some of those "Scary Movies" are funny though.)

Favorite G-rated: Lady in White
This still might be too scary for a kid under age ten or so, and it is no Disney movie. Frank, played by young Lukas Haas, is haunted by the ghost of a little girl who was killed in a schoolroom years ago. When he solves her murder, the revelation is chilling.

Favorite Old School: Carnival Of Souls Black and white. Ahead of its time. Really creepy.

More Old School: The Haunting (1963 original)
I watched this in delicious terror as a kid. Then I freaked my own kids out with it. The terror is very psychological. Better than the sequel.

Modern:The Shining
Memorable visuals. Those twins. 'Nuff said.

The Ring
I loved the suspense as the weirdness and story revealed itself.
I liked the American version better than the original Japanese one.

Anyone else have Halloween chiller theater favorites?

I will have to go with The Shining with Jack Nicholson. It was a freaky book and freaky movie.

It *is* really scary and that is an excellent choice.
The Changeling is the only movie that ever made my husband jump in his seat.
We used to live very close to the place where this story occurred (it is based on a true event.)
